7 Tips On How To Love Your Body
Too many people nowadays are so mean to themselves. We’re told to look a certain way every single day, and if we don’t we are so hard on ourselves for not living up to society’s standard of beauty. You need to love your body no matter how it looks.
Stop Letting The Scale Define You
Numbers are just that, numbers. When did we start equating numbers with our sense of self-worth? No seriously, who said it was ok? The scale isn’t something we should look towards for validation. You should love your body whether it says 130 pounds or 250.
Don’t Dress For Others, Dress For Yourself
People are so concerned about what others wear. So many times I see a tweet with a photo of a big girl wearing a crop top or something showing skin and the original poster says, “If you’re over x pounds you shouldn’t wear this.” The person was feeling confident and loving their body, curves and all, and decided to post a picture. Why did the original poster take time out of their day to shame someone who was confident and brave? Maybe they’re insecure about their own bodies and decided the only way to feel better about themselves is to shame someone else.
Who cares what other people think? Why should you care? Who’s body is it? Yours. I can’t stress this enough throughout this article: love your body.
Treat Your Body Like You Would Your Best Friend
Would you ever tell your friend she’s super overweight. Would you ever tell your friend she’s way too skinny and to eat a sandwich? So why would you tell yourself you’re ugly? Why would you tell yourself you’re fat and need to lose weight? Stop being horrible to yourself. I’m sure if you’re friend told you these things you wouldn’t be friends with them for much longer after that.
Realize Life Is Too Short To Hate Your Body
We could all leave this earth tomorrow. Do you really want to look back on your life and realize you wasted it being so mean to yourself? Why not spend your days loving yourself? It is such a rewarding feeling being confident and loving your body, flaws and all.
Appreciate What Your Body Can Do
I don’t particularly like certain parts of my body, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate what it can do. Don’t get upset because that skinny girl can do a backflip. Don’t be upset that the bigger girl can dance in a way that I can’t describe in this article. Be happy you can do a split, or some other quirky thing that other people might not be able to do.
Realize Being Fit Is Not About Being Skinny
Fitness does not equal being skinny. You could be the skinniest person in the world and have so many health problems. People take one look at a big person and automatically think they have diabetes, heart disease, and sleep apnea.
Compliment Your Body
How often do you look in the mirror and say the nastiest things about yourself. It doesn’t even have to be the nastiest things. It could be the littlest thing like, “ugh, I look like crap.” Like woah, that’s so uncalled for. Why not switch it up and say, “I look really pretty today.” You may not realize it but those little, mean remarks you make have a huge impact on how you view yourself.
