The weather is getting chillier which can only mean one thing: It’s cuffing season. Whether you are just getting into a relationship, or if you have been in one for a while, there are some things across the board that all relationships can benefit from. Here are some tips for the perfect relationship!
This is definitely the most important thing for me when it comes to relationships. Communication is huge. We can’t expect our partner to be a mind reader, so if something is bothering us, or we need to talk about something, we need to bring it up, and not be shy about it! Your partner should be willing to listen to you about these things. That bring me to another tip: The way you listen while communicating is just as important. It’s important to be an active listener, and to participate in the conversation, but not so much that it comes across as being too overbearing.
This is easier said than done for some couples, depending on if you live near each other or together, or if you are in a long distance relationship. Either way, it’s important that you find ways that the two of you can spend quality time together and develop your bond. If you are a couple that spends a majority of your time together in person, it’s important that the time you spend together that is more than just Netflix and chilling. Yes, those types of days are great, but it’s important that you also have days where you go out on dates too!
Similar to spending quality time together, it’s important that you continue to go on dates, even after you’re over the “dating” stage and are official with your boo. When you actually get out of the house and go out on a date, whether it’s something small like a meal together or a whole day out seeing a town, you build even more memories together and grow closer as you learn more about each other, regardless of how long you have been together.
This tip is just so cute, and your parter is sure to love it, regardless of how deep into the relationship you are. I’m not saying you have to buy them extravagant gifts all the time, but pick up flowers or their favorite snack or even just a photo print, to remind your significant other you’re thinking about them, even in the little things.
Involving your significant other in things going on in your life will help to make them feel more connected to you and what you’re doing. From hanging out with your friends, to your family, to telling them what you’re doing and telling them stories about your day, there are so many different ways you can let your significant other into your life, that is more than just letting them be your significant other. If you’re comfortable, you can invite your significant other to family functions or even just over to spend time with your family, so they can get to know them as well. Invite them to hang out with your friends, so they can get to see what you are like with them as well, and it will be nice to have all the important people to you together!
They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, and while I’m not recommending that you purposely spend time away from your significant other, you might want to at least take some time during the day, like when you should be working or something, away from texting or hanging out with your significant other, because then when you are back with them, or can text them again, it makes it that much better!
This one seems like an obvious tip, but it’s important to keep things light hearted and bond over things that bring both of you happiness. By creating inside jokes and things you can both look back on and laugh at, it makes for things the two of you can reference and laugh about later on down the road, as well.
Being flexible in a relationship is important in a lot of different aspects. You should be flexible and willing to at least hear your partner out when they are talking to you about things, and be open to hear what they have to say. When it comes to making plans, you aren’t always going to be able to settle on one specific thing that you both definitely want to do, so it’s important that you’re flexible in also making sure that the other is happy, and understanding that although you may not be having your ideal date day one day, there will be other times where you will also get what you want.
This one should go without saying, but it’s important that you hype your partner up! From little compliments on their appearance and personality, to saying meaningful things about how they work and act, it’s important that you remind your partner why you fell for them and what about them you think is special. It’s a confidence booster that we all appreciate getting, and it’s important that we dish it out as well.
Probably the most important of them all, it’s important that from the time you start talking, to when you first start dating, to when you’ve been together for a bit, that you never stray away from who you really are. It’s important to trust that your partner will like you for who you are, and if they don’t then they clearly are not the one for you. By being yourself, you will be so much more comfortable around your partner, while will translate into both of you being more happy and of course lead to a more successful relationship.
