12 Tips For How To Make Your House Smell Amazing

Your home is your sanctuary, so you certainly want it to smell amazing, right? Luckily for you, it doesn’t require much effort to have your house smelling like home sweet home should. Here are some tips to make your abode smell as pleasant as a bed of roses.

1. Potpourri

Potpourri is dried out petals from a variety of different plants. Not only is it fragrant, but it also functions as a beautiful decorative feature. Potpourri can be made by either drying out the petals from the fragrant plants in your own garden or by purchasing already dried out petals from most health food stores. The dried-out petals can then be put into an ornamental bowl and placed in the center of your coffee table. A more detailed guide of how to make your own potpourri can be found here. If you are not feeling crafty, you can always purchase already made potpourri online from sites like Etsy.

2. Candles

I’m sure you already know candles are a staple if you want your house smelling good, but in case you don’t, allow me to fill you in. Candles are a quick way to get a lovely aroma circulating about your home. They also serve as a source of light just in case you forgot to pay your light bill (I’m looking out for you from all angles here). Once again, you can make your own candles as outlined here or you can purchase them at any home goods store. Bath and Body Works has some fantastic smelling candles as well, and right now since fall is right around the corner they have seasonal candles that are a delight to any nose.

 3. Oils

Fragrance oils or essential oils have been used for centuries, and for good reason. Some essential oils also have healing properties. A great way to use these oils is by use of a diffuser. This diffuser sold by Amazon also comes with a set of six oils so you can get all that you need for an amazing smelling home in one product.

4. Carpet Deodorizer

If you have carpet in your home you know how hard it can be to maintain. It can be even more difficult to maintain if you have a pet because their hair gets trapped in it and so do odors. A good option is to use a carpet deodorizer in powder form. You simply sprinkle it over your carpet and let it sit for a while before vacuuming it up. The scent lingers long after you have vacuumed. Just make sure you keep your pet out of the room until you have vacuumed the powder up from the carpet so they don’t ingest it.

5. A Garden

This is a great idea mainly because you will have access to fresh-cut flowers anytime you want. Just like potpourri, this option doubles as a source of fragrance and beautiful decoration. No matter where you live, you can take advantage of this option. Check out this easy way to get started growing your own roses

6. Open A Window

No, seriously, open it! You get so used to air conditioning that you forget about the breeze outside. Nature has everything you could possibly need, so take advantage of it. You may be so used to the way your house smells that you are not aware of any possible persistent odors, so opening a window is a great way to exchange bad odors for some fresh air.

7. Cook

I love cooking for multiple reasons. It makes my house smell good, but more importantly, I get to eat! I love to sautee vegetables like onions and green peppers, but choose whatever vegetables you enjoy because I know not everyone likes onions. You can also bake tasty desserts like cupcakes and cookies for a sweeter aroma.

8. Spices

Sugar, spice, and everything nice is not just the recipe for a Powerpuff Girl, it is also a recipe for a dreamy-scented home. This option can be added to your potpourri, while cooking, or while baking. Some spices to consider for an amazing aroma are cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.

 9. Hide Your Trash Can

Often times if you smell a bad odor in your home, it is coming from the trash can. If you want your house to smell amazing, you have to take all precautions. To prevent your house from smelling like old cheese, either put your trashcan under the sink or get an odor filtering trash can.

10. Do Laundry

Dirty laundry can stink up an entire home just like a trash can. Having your dirty laundry concealed in a laundry basket with a lid is a good idea. However, doing your laundry is an even better idea. Pick a detergent with a nice scent and don’t forget the dryer sheets. Dryer sheets will prevent static and they will give your clothes an extra nice smell. If you have pets, be sure to clean their beds often as well.

11. Clean

Mopping your floors, cleaning your furniture with lemon-scented furniture polish, and cleaning your toilet bowl are great ways to improve the way your house smells. If you have soft surface furniture, you can spray some rose water over it instead. As a matter of fact, just go ahead and spray rose water around your entire house. It smells great, and I personally can’t get enough of the stuff.

12. Scent Packets

The great thing about scent packets is that you can put them virtually anywhere. Some good places to put them are in your closet, in your dresser drawers, and in your bathroom. They come in a variety of different scents, so be sure to shop around to find the one that you like.
