5 Tips For Decorating Your Dorm On A Budget

As a freshman in college, I just went through the whole process of decorating my first dorm room. Although it is a lot of fun, it can end up costing a fortune. I am going to share with you my 5 best tips on how to make your room looking bangin’ on a budget!

1. Simplicity!!

It is very easy to go into Target and start filling your cart with tons of extra unnecessary items. You will soon find out that your room is already going to be cluttered with tons of other things and you really wont need these extra items. Keeping your desk/dresser tops clean and clutter free is very important. On the other hand, you don’t want to have a dull boring room. So I suggest having a few pieces like flowers, candles, nice desk lamp etc. These items will spice up your room without creating tons of clutter.

2. DIY.

Doing things yourself can save you tons of cash $$$, but also make your room more authentically your own! Print out pictures of you and friends to hang on the wall, make an accent wall (you can frame the photos if you want), and even DIY different decor pieces that you see online (you can find tons of ideas on Pinterest).

3. Amazon PRIME.

Amazon is a very quick with shipping and is a one-stop shop for everything you may need. You can get tons of decor pieces for a lot cheaper then other big retailers.

4. Pick A Color Theme.

A very easy way to make your room look 10x times better is to pick a color scheme that you stick with throughout the room. Have your comforter, sheets, throw pillows and other decor pieces stick to that one color scheme. It really helps your room look so much more put together.

5. Wall Decor.

Most dorms have plain white walls that are sometimes cinder block. So having the walls covered/decorated is very important. Tapestries are always a good option to cover up a large space, but something I like even more is Art prints. They can be on the pricier side, but having one or two nice art prints will really add a unique & fun look to the room.

I hope these tips were as helpful for you as they were for me!! My most important tip is to enjoy the decoration process. Do not stress yourself out about trying to have the perfect dorm room. Honestly just make it a comfy & homey space because it is the only place you have to relax.
