5 Thrift Stores To Go To In Los Angeles

Sick of wearing name brand, generic clothes? Whether you live in Los Angeles or are getting away on vacation, there are a few thrift stores that you won’t want to miss out on. Here are the top five thrift stores to hit while you’re in LA.

1. Wasteland

If you’re looking for designer pieces but don’t want to pay full price, Wasteland is the place to be. With locations in Santa Monica and Hollywood, this thrift store is easily accessible. A little more boujee than your run of the mill thrift stores, Wasteland is chock full of one-of-a-kind items that will add a little something more to your wardrobe. They offer unique clothes, shoes, and accessories at reasonable prices considering what they’re worth. Stop by the Santa Monica location after shopping on the Promenade, or hit the one in Hollywood after you’ve walked down Melrose. You won’t be disappointed and will be sure to find something quirky, cute, and uniquely LA.

2. Buffalo Exchange

If you’re on a budget but are looking to find some cool clothes, Buffalo Exchange offers some great pieces at a fraction of the price of big, name brand stores. With locations in Santa Monica, Central LA, and Sherman Oaks, you’re bound to be close to at least one store. Pro tip: if you want to get rid of some of your old clothes, Buffalo Exchange is a great place to sell and get your money or store credit back. Customers rave about the friendly buyers and managers, and you’ll get a good deal on anything you’re trying to get rid of. Exchange your old clothes for some new, hip, and trendy ones. You’re bound to find something one of a kind at this hidden gem of Los Angeles.

3. Jet Rag

Located in Hollywood near Melrose, Jet Rag is a one of a kind thrift store that offers one of the best deals on clothes in town but only on Sundays. Come here in the mornings at the end of the week and they have a $1 sale, held outside the store off of the sidewalk. Yep, that’s right; everything is literally $1. Get there early, though, because once those bags are opened, things can get aggressive while shopping. If you want to take a break from the madness, hop inside and shop their regularly priced items. All the sales associates are friendly, and willing to cut you a deal if you ask right. They sell cute and quirky vintage items that you won’t find anywhere else. Stop by Jet Rag the next time you find yourself in the city; you won’t be disappointed.

4. American Vintage

American Vintage offers a variety of used vintage clothes that will add something original to your wardrobe. Located in Westwood near UCLA and Hollywood on Melrose, make it a point to visit one of these thrift stores if you want to find some vintage clothing. They offer a medley of older clothes and some pretty cool ’80s leather jackets. They also like to mix it up depending on the time of year; in October they’ll offer some Halloween items, while in the Spring and Summer they’ll pull out festival inspired wear. If you find yourself in Westwood or Hollywood, make it a point to browse their racks for some original and trendy 20th century clothing.

5. Goodwill

You might be rolling your eyes at this one, but don’t knock it ’til you try it. Goodwill isn’t native to LA, but there are multiple locations all around the city, so you’ll be close to one no matter what neighborhood you’re in. It might take some time and a little digging to get what you want, but you can find some hidden gems if you’re willing to look hard enough. I added this one not only because of its proximity but because of its extreme affordability. You can go in with $20 and come out with a few great items; you just have to put in a little work. But if you have the energy and time, Goodwill is a great place to shop when you’re on a budget.

Stop by these thrift stores the next time you find yourself in Los Angeles and pick up some unique and trendy clothes. Have any of your own favorite thrift stores in LA? Comment below!
