This past week, I had just three days to experience Stockholm! Thankfully, one of my best friends (who are from Sweden) was with me and showed me the best places to go. Now, I’m passing the information on so that everyone can visit this city with the advice from a local! Here are the top five things to do with three days in Stockholm.
This, of course, is a MUST. No matter where you’re visiting, almost everyone likes shopping, so it’s always a crowd-pleasing activity. When visiting a foreign country, this is one of the best things to do because not only is it fun and familiar, but it is also a great way to see the city by walking on the main streets from store to store!! I’d strongly suggest going down the main touristy street, Drottninggatan, and then going wherever your heart desires! If you love fashion designers, there are sure to be plenty on this street to explore. However, if you love fashion at a cheaper price, check out this great thrift store called Beyond Retro! While it is pricier than American thrift stores, such as Goodwill, you never know what you will find that will be worth the price! Who knew three days in Stockholm could include awesome thrift stores!
This was probably by far the best museum I have ever visited. What is so unique about Skansen is that you truly feel as though you are taking a trip back in time as you walk around the park. That is because you are only surrounded by centuries-old houses and the museum staff wearing period dress from their respective eras. The best way to explore this museum is to go to the food area, grab a Swedish waffle with clotted cream and jam and then walk around every corner and path from the right of the park to the left. Also, don’t forget to take pictures! The buildings and nature give the best Instagram backdrops and truly make you feel as if you’re in the countryside, instead of minutes away from Stockholm. Your three days in Stockholm can also include this artsy and historic experience!
This was definitely my second favorite of the museums in Stockholm. Fotografiska is a photography museum in Stockholm and has absolutely wonderful exhibits. I’d suggest saving this for a lazy afternoon because there is nothing better than slowly walking through the exhibits and truly soaking up all of the art. Plus, at the end, you can walk all the way up to the rooftop restaurant of the museum and see the sun dance across the ocean as it sets. Don’t miss this photography center during your three days in Stockholm!
Now if I had to pick only one place out of all of these locations to go, it would have to be this one. Just like Skansen, the Rosendals Tragard Gardens are a beautiful oasis that makes you forget that you are still within the boundaries of a large capital. It is also one of the best brunch spots I have ever been to, with organic and raw vegetables grown right from their garden. The best way to experience the pastoral beauty of this place would be to bring a book or music to listen to as you sip on coffee and eat a pre-meal bite in the outer garden. Then, I’d suggest getting one of the lunch items and a glass of their house rosé to eat at a table in one of the inner gardens. Truly a magical, secret-garden experience for your three days in Stockholm.
With an Asian-influenced menu, this restaurant i sits on top of a high rise building in central Stockholm. Their food is beautifully crafted and their wines are even better! However, this restaurant will put more than a few dents in your wallet so I’d suggest saving it for the last night when all bets are off because it truly makes for a memorable night. Afterwards you can retire up to the rooftop bar and enjoy drinks as you watch the sun set over the city. What a perfect way to end a perfect trip!
