10 Thoughts About Food Every College Student Has

mm
We love food so much there are always certain thoughts about food that cross our mind. Here are 10 thoughts about food we all have, even in college.

Besides sleep, food is something that most of us don’t usually get enough of during our college years. However, it still tends to be on our mind and when we do finally get some of quality, it’s a glorious and deeply appreciated experience. If you can relate (or just need something to procrastinate), read on for some thoughts all of us have about it! Here are 10 thoughts about food we all have!

1. Wait..when was the last time I ate?

College is a pretty busy time. Between classes, homework, clubs, social activities and possibly work it’s not unreasonable that you forgot to eat.

2. Now that I think about it, I’m starving.

Yep, turns out you haven’t eaten in like 12 hours and the more you focus on it, the more your stomach feels like it’s eating itself. Food is now your priority. One of the most typical thoughts about food.

3. Can I afford to eat off-campus?

In classic broke-college-student fashion you rummage through your wallet, your pockets, under your bed and every article of clothing on the floor in hopes of not having to eat on-campus food. If you scrounge up enough, lucky you!

4. Guess I’ll eat at the dining hall.

If you didn’t manage to find enough dough to buy something with some semblance of flavor or nutritional value (or can’t cook), then you head over to the dining hall. It’s not that bad, right?

5. What…is this?

After walking in and picking up a tray/plate, you look over your options. There seem to be three: greasy, slimy, and so-dry-you’ll-probably-choke, since at least half of this stuff is unidentifiable as anything you’d find in the real world. Bonus points: if there’s any fruit available it’s half rotten or painfully under-ripe.

6. I’m still hungry.

After you’ve had whatever looked vaguely digestible (or if the dining hall is closed – SOME OF US EAT AFTER 8 P.M., KAREN), your stomach growls again. Whether it’s the college food coming back up or actual hunger is a mystery, though. Definitely one of the most common thoughts about food.

7. Do Cheetos and Redbull count as a meal?

It’s either 3 am and you’re trying to get through an all-nighter or the convenience store is just more appealing than trying your luck with school food. The answer to this question is always, “I don’t care,” after you’re halfway through the bag.

8. I should not have eaten that.

Whether it’s your dining hall adventure coming back to take revenge or you forgot just how old that stray slice of pizza was, it’s not fun. Whichever end it comes out of, may the digestive gods have mercy on you. Typically this lesson is learned quickly and not soon forgotten.

9. I miss home food.

As they say, “freedom is never free.” Sure, you can go out whenever you want and nobody is around to tell you to clean your room, but there’s also extra responsibility and a sharper awareness of the relationship between your wallet and your stomach. Homesickness will strike occasionally, and missing the food is indisputably part of that.

10. This is the most amazing thing I have ever tasted in my life.

This happens in two scenarios: you’re drunk* and have ordered your favorite pizza or you’re back with your family on break and have swiftly learned to appreciate free, home-cooked food. Either feels like a gift from above, and you will probably end up about five pounds heavier afterward.
