12 Things You Will Only Understand If You Grew Up In Fort Morgan, Colorado

Growing up in Fort Morgan, Colorado was interesting. After eighteen years, I have come to realize there are a few things that are special to the little town that you will only understand if you grew up in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

1. The smell.

You are lying if you haven’t had this conversation:
“Where in Colorado are you from?”
“Fort Morgan.”
“Where is that?”
“Like an hour from Denver.”
“Oh, I think I have stopped for gas there before. It kind of smells.”

2. Getting your license is the most exciting thing ever.

Turing sixteen is one of the most important mile stones for every teenager, but for someone that lives in Fort Morgan it is extra exciting. Finally getting your license means you get to cruise Riverside. OH YEAH!

3. Hating the next town over.

Yeah sure, the whole hating the next town over may be a small town thing. But, the Fort Morgan vs. Brush football game is sacred and taken very seriously.

4. Brush Roller Rink was the place to be on Friday nights.

Does anyone else remember spending every Friday night either at Cover 4 or at the Roller Rink in Brush? Because I know I do.

5. Running through a cornfield because the cops showed up.

This is another thing that might be in common with all small towns. But, come on, I had to put it on the list.

6. Everyone knows everyone’s business.

News spreads fast in Fort Morgan, that is for sure. There is a new kid in town? A couple broke up? Someone got in trouble? Everyone knows about it, and it will probably end up on twitter.

7. Everyone is addicted to Peppy Coffee Co.

If you are from Fort Morgan and you love coffee, then you have to agree that Peppys is that best. Sure there is a Starbucks in Safeway, but Peppys so conveniently has a drive through and a large beautiful menu. Highly recommend.

8. Knowing everyone in your graduating class.

You also have probably gone to school with them since kindergarten and know their mom’s first name.

9. Not being able to go anywhere without running into someone you know.

Okay, this is the worse! You can not go to Walmart, or anywhere really, without running into your ex-boyfriend’s mom, your first grade science teacher and legit everyone else. Town meeting at Walmart, anyone?

10. Having a ton of school spirit.

Everyone can agree that school spirit is at an all time high during spirit week when all of the classes battle it out for the spirit stick. It is a grand time, GO MUSTANGS!

11. Rainbow Bridge.

If you grew up in Fort Morgan, then you know Rainbow Bridge and you probably took homecoming, prom or senior pictures on it.

12. The love is real.

We all say we hate Fort Morgan, but deep down we love it. Sure, it is nice to leave for college or vacation or whatever else. But, Fort Morgan was a fine place to grow up.

If you haven’t experienced these things and you are currently growing up in Fort Morgan, just wait because you will. Fort Morgan isn’t just some small town, it is home. Let us know if you grew up in Fort Morgan, Colorado and what you thought about it in the comments below!
