12 Things You Only Understand If You Grew Up In The Bronx

Living in the Bronx is truly unlike anywhere else. The Bronx has a a reputation for not being to the best to live. But that’s where everyone is wrong. Her are 12 things you’ll only understand if you grew up in the Bronx:

1. When we are going to Manhattan we say we are going to “The City”

Only out-of-towners call it New York City or Manhattan.

2. Pelham Bay Park is more of a barbecue spot than a park.

If you want a spot, you better go early before the whole lawn is filled.

3. We’ve been to the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens hundreds of times.

Every year there was a class trip to either of these places (or both).

4. The Christmas house in Pelham Parkway is a major part of the holidays.

Even though it’s there all year round, we still drive there to see it around Christmas time when it’s lit up.

5. The only baseball team we care about is the yankees.

Even if you don’t like baseball, you own a Yankees hat and have been to a game.

6. When you meet someone from out of town and tell them where you’re from, you know they will have a rude reaction.

The Bronx has a horrible reputation, which it does not deserve. Stop the stereotypes.

7. If the line is long at the bodega you can just leave the exact change on the counter and leave with what you needed.

Bodegas are better than any grocery store.

8. Summer starts whenever the “Coco mango cherry” guy is back on the corner.

They taste way better than Mr. Softee and are only $1. Seeing the stand outside of school after dismissal was the best feeling.

9. Timbs aren’t only apart of winter apparel, but every season’s apparel.

They’re worn more for aesthetic purposes rather than construction work or rainy weather.

10. The real little Italy is Arthur Ave.

Arthur Ave is the only reason Italians from other neighborhoods would ever come to the Bronx.

11. Bronx pride is real.

The Bronx is the best borough, don’t try to argue us on that.

12. Pizza from anywhere else is not the same.

Not only does it taste better, but you can find a slice for only $1.
