12 Things You Only Understand If You Grew Up In Nanuet, New York

“Oh, you’re from Upstate New York!” The classic response when you inform someone you live anywhere North of New York City. Nanuet, New York is a great place to grow up with quirks that only a true Knight would understand but grow to love. From our favorite places to eat, to hangout spots in the woods here are 12 things you only understand if you grew up in Nanuet, New York.

1. Zimi Bagel Cafe

Although we all know this as Pete’s, it does not change the value and happiness brought when taking a bite of a fresh bacon egg and cheese on soft doughy bagel before school. Anyone who grew up in Nanuet, New York know this is a go-to breakfast spot.

2. Idaho

Where getting drunk and running from the cops went hand-in-hand. Hanging out in a spot in the woods was more fun than sitting in a dry warm house where splinters were less common.

3. Spirit Week

Anyone say Ramen? The time of the year when every supermarket and wholesale store hates every kid attending Nanuet High School.

4. McDonalds

Ordering enough chicken nuggets to feed all of Rockland County while hanging out with your entire grade after school every Friday. Surprisingly, none of us are morbidly obese.

5. The Brown Jug

The most important football game of the season that will forever be a true Knight’s favorite event. If you don’t have at least one Jug shirt, are you really someone who grew up in Nanuet, New York?

6. The Nanuet Diner

If you’re drunk, hungover, or just left homecoming, you will probably be spotted at The Nanuet Diner eating soggy french fries and burnt chicken tenders.

7. The Palisades Mall

Let’s face it, we only come here when we’re really bored or don’t have gas to go to Paramus.

8. The Rooster Cheer

I think that’s all that needs to be said about that.

9. Dunkin Donuts on 59

Nobody knows what her name is but she makes your iced coffee perfect every time and throws in extra donuts no matter what time it is. If you grew up in Nanuet, New York, there’s no other Dunkins you would rather go to.

10. King Kone

The day they announce they are reopening for the summer should be a national holiday because it is finally time the good ice cream is available.

11. Secrets

They don’t exist in Nanuet. We are a town of about 100 to 120 kids in a graduating class, everyone knows everything about everyone before you do.

12. Franco’s Pizza

One of the few food places you’re either at everyday while in town or can’t wait to return to on your breaks during college. Where every graduate from Nanuet High School works and every high school goer wishes to work.
