12 Things You Only Understand If You Grew Up in Dunedin, Florida

We’re small, our name gets mispronounced, and we make kilts look good any day of the week. When someone from out of town asks us where we’re from, we automatically say “Oh, over by Tampa” because we know no one knows where we are. Though not as well-known as our neighbors Tarpon Springs and Clearwater, those who grew up in the quaint little town of Dunedin held immense pride in its quirky, hometown feel. It has character. A certain charm that somehow works by combining Scottish pride, tourism, and beaches. If you were fortunate enough to call this place your home, here’s 12 things you’ll automatically be able to relate to if you grew up in Dunedin, Florida.

It’s completely natural to walk by someone wearing a kilt

Delco’s. No explanation needed

You can’t make one trip to Publix without seeing at least 10 people you know, no matter what time of the day

There are random oranges painted everywhere, but you don’t know where they come from

Fritzee Freeze was your go-to every day during the summer

There’s a 50/50 shot you or someone you know plays the bagpipes

You’ve been to Fenway at least once when you were in high school, just to see if it really was haunted

Pub subs are the real MVP

A day may come when you walk the entire Pinellas Trail, but today is not that day

You know there’s always a debate on how to pronounce Strachan’s (even though your way is definitely the right way)

You always look for your dog’s name on the “Dogedin” mural downtown

The causeway is the best place to go because you don’t want to pay to go to an actual beach
