12 Things You Only Understand If You Grew Up in Boulder, Colorado
Boulder, Colorado is beautiful and some of us were fortunate enough to have grown up there. If you grew up in Boulder, Colorado you’ll relate these 12 things.
Boulder vs Fairview
This rivalry runs deep, and your parents probably went to one school and you will be going to the same one. You hate the other school, you don’t need a reason you just do. Or, you chose Monarch for some odd reason?
Pearl Street Mall
You and your friends definitely hung out there in middle school, you walked around and watched the street performers and never gave them money when they passed around their hat because you probably spent the $10 your parents gave you at Ben & Jerry’s. Then you probably played with the toys in Into The Wind but didn’t actually buy anything before calling your parents to pick you up in the madness that is Pear Street. Classic Boulder.
Boulder Creek & Creek Fest.
It’s crowded, but you have most likely rafted down it or swam with your friends. It’s surrounded by college students, because after all, that is their natural habitat. Creek fest is loud and busy, but you still go every year, maybe not to buy anything but it’s fun just to look around.
The Star on Flagstaff Mountain
You know the holidays are just around the corner when the Star at Flagstaff mountain gets turned on. And you know even though you struggle every year, you’ll slip and slide and climb your way up to be cold and look over the city for an hour or two, because nothing compares to that view. Boulder, Coloardo is absolutely gorgeous, especially during the holidays.
Chautauqua aka The Flatirons
You probably went hiking with your friends if you’re into that or put up a hammock and chilled, maybe even climbed the Flatirons. Whether or not you like nature and hiking, you’ve been there.
Dogs, dogs everywhere
One of Boulder’s best quality’s is the amount of people who have dogs, and take them with them everywhere. And even better, most people in boulder aren’t just nice enough to let you pet their dog, they want you to pet their dog. Pet the dog, PET IT.
Bikers, Bikers everywhere
Everyone in boulder can ride a bike, and a lot of people ride them everywhere. And we all know that wonderful time when we can finally drive, but we know the real kings of the road are bikers. Is the law to ride single file in a bike lane? Yes. Does anyone ever ride single file in a bike lane? No. How many times have you contemplated just tapping them with your car? Plenty.
Boulderites, or for those not from Boulder ‘hippies’
They love tie dye, and sandals or no shoes at all, most people fall into this stereotype. Enough at least that even if you don’t fall into this category, you know someone or many someones who do. Also, sometimes known as ‘granola’ to other Coloradans who are not Boulderites.
CU vs CSU
Sko Buffs. For the people who like CSU, what are you doing in Boulder?
Hot dogs from Home Depot
There is a man with a trailer and he sells hot dogs, and if you have ever been here you have wanted one. And nothing, absolutely nothing, is better than a hot dog and soda on a warm summer day when you get dragged to home depot with your parents.
Giving Directions
When an Implant (those who recently moved to CO from out of state) or tourist asks for directions, we make sure to give them the Boulder, CO welcome and direct them in the only way we know: toward the mountains and away from the mountains.
Knowing you’ll never love a city more than this one
With all of its quirks and oddities, and despite its downfalls (I’m talking to you, 5pm traffic) we all know that we wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
