Over the past decade or so, Disney has made the decision to turn their animated classics into live-action movies. With the success of The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, as well as other films, the live action version of The Lion King is expected to blow audiences away. Here are 5 things you need to know about the new Lion King Movie.
It’s no secret, the Lion King is one of Disney’s most popular animations to hit the big screens. While the original was released in 1994, the new Lion King movie is scheduled to air on July 19, 2019, 25 years later.
Although everyone was a huge fan of the original, the roles of Disney’s beloved characters are being replaced by an impressive cast. With the new Lion King movie, you can expect to hear the voices of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Seth Rogan as Pumbaa, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar. Other roles will be voiced by James Earl Jones, Keegan-Michael Key, John Oliver, Florence Kasumba, and more. With an A-list cast like this, you won’t be disappointed.
As fans wait for the release of the new Lion King movie, they’re anxious to know how similar the live-action version will be to the original. Similar to the original, the new Lion King movie will incorporate a handful of songs from the soundtrack. Fans can expect to sing along to “Can you feel the love tonight,” “Hakuna Matata,” “I just can’t wait to be king,” and “Circle of life. Although fans are expecting for the new version to align with the original, it’s been said that the director and creators have added some slight changes as well. While this can be upsetting for some hardcore fans, Disney has had success with this in the past. Just remember to keep an open mind, sometimes change can be good.
There’s a lot of pressure that comes with recreating an original movie. While the original was directed by Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers, the new Lion King movie will be directed by Jon Favreau. Favreau has had extensive success with directing movies such as Rudy, Elf, Iron Man, The Avengers, Cowboys & Aliens, as well as many other films. Although fans can become skeptical of new directors, it’s important to note that Favreau directed the live-action version of The Jungle Book in 2016. After the release of the live-action Jungle Book, fans were impressed by Favreau’s ability to make it come to life. Fans can be assured that Favreau has the skills and credentials to deliver a captivating story.
Just like the original, the new Liong King movie will be set in Africa. What audiences don’t know, is the new movie was actually filmed in Los Angeles. Using the same technology from the live-action Jungle Book, the production staff were able to utilize virtual production techniques to mirror the African plains that were featured in the original. In order to accurately depict the animals from the original, filmmakers relied on motion capturing video techniques to study the movement of animals. In addition to this, actors and actresses were required to wear virtual reality headsets on set. With the use of the headsets, the actors were able to see one another as well as the plains where the original took place. Rather than just utilizing voice-overs, the filmmakers wanted to give the actors a realistic experience when filming. This allowed the actors to connect with their characters and give a compelling performance.
