Things You Need To Have As A Minimalist

Being a minimalist is keeping track of what you use and what you need and making sure that you’re not over purchasing to have a more positive outlook on the environment. Being a minimalist might seem hard at first but it’s actually quite easy even if you’re tempted by the world of fast fashion and easily disposable items. Here are some items to make things easier for you that you need to have as a minimalist.

1. Beeswax Paper

Beeswax paper is biodegradable, reusable, and sustainable making it a great ecofriendly minimalistic product. Gone are the days where you travel through the aisles purchasing ziplock bags and cellophane paper. Beeswax paper is great to allow the freshness of the food to last longer and the reusability also helps with the wastefulness that regular bags don’t have.  For a minimalist limiting, unnecessary shopping expenses is one of the key aspects and beeswax paper is the perfect alternative to something that we all use in our everyday life.

2. Biodegradable toothbrush

Did you know that the average plastic toothbrush takes 400 years to decompose on our mother earth. These plastic toothbrushes may not seem deadly but as they settle into landfills and release toxic chemicals into our air they are for more deadly than they appear. That’s why biodegradable toothbrushes are the way to go as they offer the same dental effects that a regular toothbrush has while making it easier to recycle.

3. Mesh Shopping Bag

You’ve probably seen this already on Pinterest or Tumblr but these mesh shopping bags along with reusable grocery tote bag. Imagine how many times you stop by the grocery store and use a plastic bag that at worst you throw away right after and at best you pick up your dog’s poop with it every once in a while. Plastic bags increase pollution in our ocean thus having a negative effect on our favorite marine animals ruining their homes as well as ours. Plus with the variety of colors and designs, you could purchase great reuseable tote bags as well as the mesh shopping bags.

4. Reusable water Bottles and Water Filter

The amazing duo. Water bottles, we all know how bad they are. We all have heard about the negative impact of water bottles and seen the photos of them floating in our oceans. Brita filters are a great way to have purified water and all you have to do is repurchase new filters after a couple of months to make sure the water stays purified. There is also a huge assortment of reusable water bottles to purchase and pick from. There are plain water bottles, neutral-colored, you can even decorate your water bottles with stickers and Vscofy it. Did you know that water bottle pollution causes 2 million tons of water bottle pollution in our landfills? It takes 1,000 years to decompose a single water bottle. One reusable water bottle takes up significantly less space than a case of water whilst also being more environmentally friendly. Brita actually also sells a water bottle that comes with one of their filters inside of it so all you have to do is refill the bottle instead of refilling the water pint if you want something smaller that takes less space in the fridge.

5. A capsule Wardrobe

I actually have pins and wanted to do capsule wardrobes forever. The sustainability when it comes it fashion is pretty low with fast fashion sites popping up making it easily affordable for others to simply purchase a top that they might rarely wear because it’s affordable and managed to easily get their hands on it. Did you know that 21 billion pounds of textile waste enter landfills every year? Having capsule wardrobes stops the purchasing of fast fashion clothing while alowing you to still have enough clothing options for making for the season. Even though this isn’t a thing every minimalist should try to reduce their textile waste while also being able to dress appropriately and have what they need without it being in excess. A capsule wardrobe is about 20-30 clothing items that work with the season so go through your closet and resale what you don’t wear or donate it to those who need the items more.
