15 Things You Know If You Live In A Small Town

mm

Living in a small town means that everyone knows everything about each other. You probably have one or two high schools and a major rivalry with the next down over that EVERYONE (even your parents) get involved in. These are the 15 things you know if you live in a small town!

1. Knowing literally everyone and their mothers.

This can be a good and a bad thing. Every move you make is most likely monitored by someone, so staying out of trouble is impossible. But, if you need something, you always have someone to go to.

2. Having the same friends since kindergarten.

Your friends from kindergarten are still your friends because you attended the same elementary, middle, and high school. Chances are you all choose the same college.

3. Struggling to find places to hang out that isn’t someone’s house.

A small town means that there isn’t much to do other than go to the one local hangout or each other’s houses. The struggle is real.

4. Not being able to go anywhere without seeing someone you know.

Leaving the house? Get ready to so more than half of the people you know while you are out.

5. Seeing your teachers outside of school is a normal occurrence.

It doesn’t matter where you go, you will most definitely run into your teacher at some point. Just smile and wave.

6. Knowing what everyone’s car looks like and probably see people you know driving around town.

I don’t think there has been a time that I have driven through town that I haven’t beeped at a friend or been beeped at by someone I know saying hi.

7. A part of your school parking lot is a hangout.

As I said before, there just isn’t anywhere to go. So, if there is a place everyone is, that becomes the hangout.

8. The only fun thing to do on Friday nights is a sporting event, which the whole town is attending.

Party in the small town? That usually consists of tailgating with your parents and your friend’s parents because everyone is at the game. Picture something straight out of Friday Night Lights.

9. Having a ton of school spirit.

There isn’t much else to do other than get into the school spirit.

10. And hating the next town over.

We hate the rival town.

11. Getting your license is the most exciting day.

This means actual freedom. Your license is like gold. Finally, you can get behind the wheel and leave town every now and then.

Never say never, am I right?

15. But knowing you’ll always love your small town.

Although it is small and there is not much excitement or privacy, it is home. And sometimes there is just nothing better than home.
