When packing for college, there’s an extensive list of items you’re going to want to bring. From electronics to clothing and snacks, you’re going to want to be as prepared as possible. While packing for college may seem easy, there’s a handful of items that you might not even think of bringing. Here are 10 things you don’t want to forget to pack for college.
It’s not uncommon for students to forget their swimsuits when they pack for college. Even if your college isn’t located near a beach, there’s a good chance there’s a swimming pool on campus. For those days when it’s super hot and humid, you’ll want to remember to pack a bathing suit or two.
Noise canceling headphones are a must for every college student. Although quiet hours are recommended to students, a lot of the time, students don’t take them into consideration. Nothing is more annoying than when you’re studying for a final and the room above you is throwing a party. Be sure to pack a pair of noise-canceling headphones in order to block out any unwanted disruptions.
When you pack for college, you’re going to want to remember to throw in a waterproof jacket or umbrella. While any jacket would suffice, a waterproof jacket will assure warmth when trudging across campus. You won’t be disappointed with your choice to invest in a waterproof jacket when it’s pouring profusely and you have to leave your dorm.
Although some colleges and universities have private bathrooms, a good majority of them require students to use communal bathrooms. Due to this, you’re going to want to pack a pair of shower shoes when it’s time to bath. In addition to this, you’ll want to invest in a bathrobe. While you can choose to change in the bathroom, the stalls aren’t as spacious, making it hard to dress or undress.
It’s no surprise that college dorm beds aren’t the most comfortable. In fact, it can feel like you’re laying on a slab of cement. In order to ensure a good night’s rest, make sure to pack a mattress pad. With different size mattress pads, you should be able to find one that works best for you at an affordable price.
In my experience, college dorm rooms can get unbearably hot in the summer. Although most colleges and universities don’t allow students to bring air conditioners, they do allow fans. Rather than being drenched in sweat, be sure to purchase a fan when you pack for college. This is one purchase you’ll be thankful for.
Another item that many college students don’t think of bringing, is a first aid kit. For an affordable price, you should be able to find a first aid kit with basic supplies. If you ever have a headache, but health services is closed, you can grab some Tylenol from your kit. If you get a papercut after flipping through your textbook, throw on a band-aid in a matter of seconds. You never know when a first aid kit will come in handy.
A firebox is great for protecting valuable items and papers. There’s a good chance you’re going to want to bring a copy of your birth certificate, a passport, and other important information with you to college. In order to keep everything organized and safe, be sure to invest in a small firebox. Not only will you know where everything is at all times, but other people won’t be able to access your information.
A sewing kit always comes in handy when you least expect it. You never know when a piece of clothing will rip or if a button will pop off. In order to avoid wardrobe malfunctions, invest in a small sewing kit for any future clothing emergencies.
Although you can drink the tap water from the sink, there’s a good chance you’re not going to be a fan of it. By investing in a water filter, you can have access to clean water at all times. Not to mention, it’s environmentally friendly compared to buying cases of bottled water.
