We all have that one blank wall in our apartments that we can never seem to figure out. The kitchen and living room were a walk in the park to decorate, but one blank wall is proving difficult. It’s too big to ignore and too small to really use. Get your command strips ready — we have ten easy DIY ideas for you to finally conquer that blank wall!

Chalkboard Wall

This idea is so easy, it’s kind of ridiculous. Go to your local home improvement store (or Target!) and buy chalkboard paint and get to painting! Don’t forget the chalk — classic white or a variety pack — and a pretty bowl to put it in! I don’t know who will have more fun drawing on the wall: you or your guests. Just make sure you check your leasing contract before you buy the paint!

Picture Gallery

A picture gallery is a simple way to add something special and aesthetic to any room. Shop around for frames that go well together. Mix and match colors, metals, and sizes. Pop in your favorite photos and hang (or prop!) those bad boys up! You’ll have a wall filled with your best memories and you can finally be done with that blank wall for once and for all

Polaroid Gallery

Similar to the picture gallery idea, polaroids can really give a bit of personality to any room. Whether you’ve been collecting them for years or just bought yourself a camera, you already know polaroids invoke a sense of nostalgia. Tape them up and spend some time reminiscing! Your friends will love seeing themselves and the best memories on your wall!

Book Shelves

Display your favorite paperbacks proudly! Wall bookshelves are increasing in popularity and there are plenty of different styles for you to show off your impressive book collection (and to get rid of that blank wall!) Add in some fun bookends or trinkets to really give this some personality!

Acrylic Frames

If you want to hang posters and pictures on that blank wall, but are so over thumbtacks and big frames, try out an acrylic frame instead! They’re clear and totally give off a floating image look to any photos or prints you want to insert! Paint the wall a fun color, pop in some awesome prints, and hang up the frames! Your guests will be thinking your apartment is oh-so trendy with these frames!

Prints Gallery

Fun prints have been getting rather popular with stores like Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 selling them in their home decor section. Mix and match your favorite prints and tape or frame them up. Prints make an easy and fun way to add some dimension to the room. Similar to the photo gallery, but far less personal, a prints gallery will draw your guests in.

Records Wall

This is probably a no-brainier for the music lovers. Check out consignment shops and thrift stores for used records to hang up on that blank wall! You can use the records themselves or hang up awesome record covers. You can do your all-time favs or just something that goes with the room. This is a cheap, easy, and fun way to decorate any space!

Wire Grid Wall

If you’re sentimental and like to hang onto every concert ticket, birthday card, or metro card, this is the perfect idea for you. A little prettier to look at than a cork board, a wire wall grid would allow you to hang up your favorite mementos and display them to your guests. Hang up two on that blank wall and watch the memories grow.

Plant Wall

For the green-thumbed people out there, a plant wall might be your next adventure! There are a variety of wall vases for you to put your succulents and cacti in! It’s an absolutely adorable way to add some life to that blank wall and make it aesthetic AF. (Bonus Tip: if you’re into the plants, but not the wall vases, use bookshelves and put potted plants instead!)

Make It An Accent Wall

If you’d rather keep it easy, we feel ya. Instead of command strips and photo frames, paint the wall a bold color or hang up a fun (removable!) wall paper that matches the vibe of the room and call it a day. Not every part of your apartment has to be exciting, but it should definitely always reflect you.

What are you ideas for that notoriously hard-to-decorate blank wall?
