Every college has certain things that their students only understand. Keep reading for 6 things you only understand if you lives in Boyd Hall at KSU!
You’ll notice that after a couple of months you get used to seeing the same faces around your hall. Things are starting to slow down and you feel like you have a good grasp on all the faces of your floor-mates. But, then you have a floor meeting and you see a new face or you run into a girl that you’ve never seen before in the bathroom. This is when you have to figure out if that girl lives on your floor, if she’s from another floor, or if she lives there at all. It will be awkward…but you’ll live.
Let’s start off with the obvious, Boyd Hall is an all-girl dorm. Now that’s fine and everything, but sometimes it gets old and you just want to see the opposite sex once in a while. I know I started to miss the rambunctiousness of guys being present.
Since Boyd Hall is an all-girl dorm, I know I found it kind of weird to see guys just roaming the halls. I’m not just talking about during regular hours of the day either, I mean like at 1 or 3 in the morning. After living in Boyd for a while you start to get an all-girl mentality so it feels weird when you do see guys around.
This isn’t necessarily a Boyd thing since all dorm laundry rooms can be a pain but it’s here because, why not? Here’s a little friendly advice…Sunday nights between 7pm and 10pm is the worst time to do laundry. I kid you not, it feels like the whole building is trying to do laundry at this time, so just don’t do it. You can find another time. Try doing laundry at weird times like a Monday at 1pm or a Thursday at 3pm, when everybody is either in class or doing other stuff. If you go at a random time, the laundry room is usually empty.
Compared to other dorms, the communal bathrooms in Boyd Hall are ridiculously large. This is because unlike the other dorms that have one bathroom per hallway, Boyd has 4 hallways and one bathroom. I don’t know how many girls that is…but it would surely be a disaster if we had a tiny bathroom. Also, can we talk about those motion light sensors? I, like plenty of other girls, have been taking a shower when suddenly everything goes dark and all you can do is hope for somebody to walk by to turn them back on. This tended to happen to me when I was shaving. Dark showers and sharp blades? Not a great mix.
I’ll end this list with the bane of every Boyd girl’s existence…that elevator! If you’re anything like me, you were super excited about it when you first moved in… I mean it’s really cool in an old school type of way. BUT after living there for a while, trying to carry tons of stuff, waiting for it, all the maintenance that it needs, etc. you’ve gotten pretty tired of it. After a couple of months, I gave up and started using the stairs. I lived on the fourth floor, so it was kind of a pain always taking stairs, but my legs got really toned from all that extra effort. Though I complain, it is one of the things that gives Boyd Hall its charm.
