10 Things To Do While Sheltering In Place

It’s no secret that the last year been difficult for many people during this pandemic when staying safe and sheltering in place. Here are ten things to do to pass the time while you’re sheltering in place.

1. Workout

Working out is a great way to pass the time during the day and living a healthy lifestyle. You can do so many workouts that are good for your health from the comfort of your home. There are so many different ways that you can exercise and burn calories from home. You can do abdominal exercises to strengthen your core, lifting weights to build muscle, and brain teasers to exercise your brain. The advantage of working out is that you are staying healthy, burning fat while building muscles, passing the time efficiently, and decreasing your chance of cardiovascular disease.

2. Find new recipes to cook

During these uncertain times during this pandemic, millions of people have been trying new ways to entertain and challenges themselves during their downtime. One way of challenging yourself is to find new recipes to cook. Finding a new recipe to cook can be beneficial to people in so many ways. By expanding your cooking portfolio, you can save a lot of money by cooking more often than going out and ordering takeout. The food you learn to cook can be healthy to help you achieve a living more nutritious lifestyle.

3. Go on a walk

Staying at home and inside all day can be very tedious and boring at times. One significant aspect of sheltering in place is that you can explore your neighborhood more frequently than you have before the pandemic. Going on frequent walks around your neighborhood, one to two times per day is beneficial to staying healthy. Walking allows people to get out of their house, stretch the legs, get some much-needed fresh air, and is a great way to get a nice and eat cardio workout. Walking around your neighborhood can also help if you need to clear your head and get away from the abundant number of screens we have in our daily lives.

4. Reorganize your living space

There are only 24 hours in a day, but it seems like time is moving at such a slow pace during this pandemic. One way to pass the time during the day is to reorganize your room or household items. You can do this in any room in your home, bedrooms, living room, dining room, bathroom, closet, and this can activity can take up most of your day. You may feel the need to throw out old items you do not need with reorganizing your room. If you feel the need to replace these older household items, you can always replace them with newer items. The neat aspect about reorganizing your room is that you may feel like your living situation has improved without doing a complete remodel.

5. Do a puzzle

One way to keep you occupied while sheltering in place is to start and finish a puzzle. Puzzles can be very challenging that can be a form of a brain teaser. The significant aspect of doing a puzzle is that there are many different puzzle types, ranging from various difficulties, sizes, and themes. Puzzles can take up to weeks and even months to complete depending on the puzzle’s size, how many pieces make up the puzzle, and the difficulty of the puzzle. While finishing a puzzle in one day seems like an excellent use of your day, completing a 2,000 piece puzzle in one day is highly unlikely. Starting and completing a puzzle can be a great way to bond with family and friends while putting your scavenger skills to the test.

6. Have a movie marathon

Although sheltering in place can get tedious and boring, there are aspects of sheltering that have allowed people to do activities they could not partake in pre-pandemic. People can spend time sheltering in place having an all-day movie marathon. The twenty-first century has given people the ability to access almost every movie or film ever to hit the big screen. Having an all-day movie marathon is a great way to spend a rainy day. The great aspect of having a movie marathon is that people can watch any old and new feature film that has ever hit the big screen.

7. Binge watch a television show

Another way to spend some time during these uncertain times is to binge-watching a television series. Unlike many companies, streaming services have been thriving during this pandemic. Many streaming companies like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and Disney+ allow people to watch almost every television series to hit the silver screen. Starting a new series, continuing watching a television series, or watching a popular series again can be a great way to pass the time while you are sheltering in place.

8. Yoga

Just like working out, doing Yoga is also another great way to spend time while you are sheltering in place. Not only does Yoga help you stretch your limbs, decrease the rate of cardiovascular diseases, but Yoga can also be an excellent method to clear your mind and help you think clearly during times of stress. If you don’t know any yoga positions, don’t worry. With the power of the internet, there are so many videos online on YouTube that focus on Yoga. I would suggest Yoga for beginners if you are new to the world of Yoga. No matter if you are a beginner to the world of Yoga or a zen master, Yoga is a great activity to spend your time while you are sheltering in place.

9. Clean

Another way to pass the time while you are sheltering in place is to clean your home. With all the time people have been spending at home during these uncertain times, the places we occupy can get dirty quickly. No one wants to be living or working in a filthy mess. Cleaning can give you a sense of accomplishment, ease, and cleaning can also be an excellent way to unwind and relax. Cleaning can range from sweeping the floor, washing dishes, vacuuming your living area, wiping down the counters with Clorox wipes, and even cleaning your body. People need to work on practicing good hygiene during this pandemic as well. Practicing good hygiene is another aspect of cleaning. Good hygiene ranges from brushing your teeth, flossing, bathing, and going to the doctor for annual appointments. People need to be aware that they need to focus on their cleanliness while sheltering in place and cleaning their living area.

10. Meditation

Like working out, yoga, and cleaning, Meditation is an excellent way for people to relax and unwind while sheltering in place. Although mediation seems simple, it can be challenging. Mediation can be gratifying to people looking to improve their mood and mindset. One aspect of mediation that is very difficult to accomplish is clarifying your mind and focusing on your breathing. When you are partaking in a mediation session, you will want to block out all outside noise. Remove any types of technology, food, stress, and solely focus on your breathing. Mediation is an excellent form of relaxation to try while you’re sheltering in place.
