Bad days are inevitable, everyone has them. Everyone wakes up on the wrong side of the bed every now and then and that’s totally ok. How you deal with your bad day is what’s important and will make or break your mood for the rest of the day, if not week. Here are 12 simple ways to turn your crappy bad day into a much better, smile-filled day because no one wants a cranky pants around.
When you’re feeling down and moody and like you’re about the have the world’s worst day, turn on a super-hot shower and get in. Let the steam build up and take as many deep breaths as it takes to calm yourself down. The steam will actually help open up your lungs and airways, allowing you to breath deeper and essentially causing you to relax from your bad mood faster.
Music has such a huge effect on emotion, much more than you would actually think until you turned on a happy song on the worst of your days. Whenever you feel a crappy mood coming on that will turn your day into a bad one, pick your favorite happy turn and quite literally blast it. You’ll be surprised how quick your day turns around.
Oxygen is so important, especially when we’re feeling moody. A lot of times, a bad day starts when we have actually been trapped inside for far too long and a little bit of cabin fever begins. Whenever this mood happens and you start to hate the world, step outside and take a deep breath in.
On the other hand, if its pouring rain and you really can’t go outside, open up your window wide and allow some fresh air to flow in. New oxygen will flow out the dead air and eventually stimulate your mood, causing you to have a much better day then where it was headed.
When we’re in a bad mood, maybe the worst thing we can do is log onto social media. Scrolling through Instagram or other forms of social media has actually been linked to a heightened cause of insecurities and depression for women. Whenever you feel down and see other people living their best ‘social media lives,’ it can cause you to feel worse about yourself and your life so for god sake, don’t go online.
A trick I learned years ago to balance yourself whenever you feel anxious or moody is to divert your mind to not one but five things that make you happy. It could be a past memory, experience, item or person, as long as it makes you happy, think about those things and your mood will change dramatically.
Along with the five things that make you happy, find five things around you that you find truly beautiful. No matter where you are, it’s important to find beauty in anything. Eventually, this trick will have your mind trained to see the beauty in the world where others might not see it exist.
When you are having a bad day, nothing is better than a good workout. There is literally no possible way to feel bad about yourself after an exercise because you are benefiting yourself, what you just did was good for your body and your mind and no one can take that away from you. Find a workout that you thoroughly enjoy and do it often, it will become a great escape whenever you have a bad day.
Find a positive distraction whenever a bad mood strikes to avoid it from affecting your entire day and make a habit out of it. Whatever it is, a walk down the street, a call to your mom, find your positive distraction and abuse it whenever you need too.
This technique sounds odd but works an incredible amount whenever you need to vent out your problems. Open up your laptop, notes on your phone or a traditional note pad and literally just write down whatever your feeling and why and don’t hold back. This will help you to release all your emotions rather than bottle them up inside.
The worst thing you can do when having a bad day is avoiding the actual issue of why you are even having a bad day at all. Think about it and you might actually come to realize that you’re having a bad day for no reason at all and if there is a reason, rather than letting it affect your day, try to find ways to resolve the problem before getting mad.
The most important thing you can do when having a bad day is to remember that no matter what is going on in your life, big or small, eventually everything will work itself out and everything will be okay.
