17 Things To Do When You’re Bored
Are you bored of your monotonous schedule and looking for new ways to pass the time? Are you in a life transitioning period that leaves you with way more free time than you’ve ever had before? It can get old and tiring doing the same thing every day, so it’s important to find new ways to spice up your day-to-day life. For those looking for new things to do when you’re bored, here are our favorite hobbies and activities that are great for passing the time.
1. Go To Your Local Museum
Museums are a great place to go when you’re bored because there are always new things to see and learn. Art and History museums usually have temporary shows that are on display a few months at a time, so there’s always the chance you’ll see works you’ve never seen before. Plus, science museums always have sections with fun, hands-on activities. At museums, time passes by so fast you won’t even notice it.
2. Bake The Cake You’ve Been Wanting To Try
I know you have a Pinterest board full of fun recipes for cakes, desserts, and meals you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t had the time for. So the next time you need something to do when you’re bored, try making the cake! It’ll make you feel like you’re doing something productive while still being fun and rewarding.
3. Binge Watch A New Show On Netflix
My Netflix “To Watch” list is longer than I am, so one of my biggest suggestions for how to pass the time when you’re bored is to binge-watch a new show on Netflix you haven’t seen before. Maybe you pick one from your list that your Aunt Cheryl told you was good, or maybe you let Netflix choose for you. Bringing a new show can be a great way to pass a few hours.
4. Paint A Picture
When you’re bored, it’s a great chance to do something crafty! Try painting a picture, whether it’s on canvas, glass, or your walls – painting is a very relaxing activity that can not only be a great way to spend a few hours, but can also produce a really rewarding and beautiful memory.
5. Listen To Your Daily Mix On Spotify
Spotify goes out of its way to produce a Daily Mix for you every day, and you never even listen to it! While I’m mainly joking, listening to Spotify’s Daily Mixes and special playlists can be the perfect activity for when you’re bored. Not only will you find a way to stop your boredom, you can also discover new songs and artists that you may not have heard before.
6. Rearrange Your Room
Looking for something to do when you’re bored? Rearrange your room. Try out something different with your posters, change the orientation of your bed, move your dressers and tables around until it feels right. You rarely find time to do excess things like rearranging your room, so use this moment of free time to try something new. You may even find that creating a different space can help you change your mindset and add variety to your monotonous days.
7. Try Yoga
Yoga is a great way to pass the time when you’re bored because not only is it relaxing and fun, but it’s also a great way to work out and stretch your body. Yoga is an incredibly relaxing activity, so it can change your feelings of boredom to ones of serenity and calm.
8. Practice A New Makeup Look
Much like how cooking is a great way to pass the time when you’re bored because it lets you try out something new, it’s also the perfect time to try out that new makeup looks you’ve been seeing on TikTok. It’s okay to make mistakes or get the makeup design wrong because it’s just for fun and practice, but it will prepare you to recreate it better the next time you need to go out and look hot.
9. Play With Your Pet
Your pets love and adore you and are always willing to help you out when you’re bored. Maybe it’s time to play with your cat and her new toy, or maybe you decide to take your dog to that new park down the road – whatever you do, your pets will be happy and grateful to get to spend some extra special time with you.
1o. Work Through An Activity Book
Remember that activity book/coloring book/word search/sudoku/crossword puzzle you picked up from Target because you thought it looked fun? It’s time to break that back out and use it to pass the hours when you’re bored. These activities are both stimulating and easy, so it can feel like your doing work without feeling like work.
11. Clean Out Your Closet
Are you looking for something to do when you’re bored, and there are no crafts or recipes or makeup looks that have been calling to you? It’s time to clean out your closet! It’s packed and you don’t wear a 1/4 of it, and cleaning it will open up new space for that seasonal fashion you’ve been eyeing. So throw on your favorite playlist, pull up your hair, and get to sorting.
12. Read A “Classic” Novel
If you’re anything like me, then there are at least 20 books you were supposed to read for school and didn’t. When you’re bored is a great time to pull out that classic novel you were assigned in English 101 and actually read it. However, much like my Netflix “To Watch” list, my “To Read” list is a bit daunting to choose from.
13. Try Out A New Craft
Some people aren’t great painters, and that’s totally okay! There are so many fun crafts and creative activities you can try out when you’re bored. Knitting, embroidering, sewing, drawing, writing, you name it – there’s a crafty hobby out there for everyone, so now’s a great time to choose one and see how you like it.
14. Learn A TikTok Dance
We’ve all wanted to learn a TikTok dance at least once – there are so many good ones to choose from – so pairing up with a friend to learn that one you have saved can be a great way to pass time when you’re bored. You don’t have to video or show it to anyone. Sometimes it can just be fun to learn them so you have moves to bust out the next time they’re played at your friend’s wedding.
15. Start A Vegetable Or Flower Garden
Gardening is another great activity to do when you’re bored because it’s fun and relaxing, but it also produces a reward at the end. Maybe you really like flowers, or maybe you’ve been thinking about starting an herb and vegetable garden. Now would be a great time to start that garden you’ve been thinking about, creating something that will make you excited and happy for days to come.
16. Learn A New Language
Languages take a lot of time and dedication to learn, but taking the moments when you’re bored to start learning the basics can be a great way to pass a few hours. It’s doing something fun and educational for yourself that can possibly be beneficial to you down the road – what if you start learning French and are given the opportunity to go work or travel abroad in Paris? You’ll be really glad you took a few moments to at least learn the basics and simple, every day phrases.
17. Work out
Working out and finding a new exercise you enjoy can be a great activity for when you’re bored. It’s not only fun and a good way to boost serotonin levels, but it’s also great for your body. If you find an exercise you enjoy, you’re more likely to continue working out regularly, which will help you in a lot of ways as you get older.
