15 Things To Do On Your Spring Break Cancun Trip

A Spring Break Cancun trip is the perfect way to take your mind off school for a couple of weeks. With amazing beaches and underwater rivers, this city is a surreal paradise.

1. Visit the Cancun Underwater Museum

This is contemporary museum has hundreds of underwater sculptures that become part of the reef itself, creating an immersive, dream-like experience for it’s visitors. Take a scuba or snorkeling tour through the museum itself and explore the exhibits “Silent Evolution” and “The Dream Collector”.

2. Go paddle boarding

If getting waterlogged learning to surf isn’t on your “Spring Break Cancun To-Do List” try paddle boarding! It’s easy, relaxing, and lets you chill out on the waves.

3. Go shopping

If you’re desperate for some air conditioning, try shopping at the La Isla Shopping Village. However, you’ll find a much more authentic experience at Mercado 23 (not to be confused with more touristy Mercado 28). This is where real locals shop. It’s an excellent place try street food and buy souvenirs on your Spring Break Cancun trip.

4. Explore Ik Il Cenote

Cenotes are natural sinkholes, or caves filled with ground water. A visit to the Ik Il Cenote is included with many tours to Chichen Itza. However, it’s also very affordable to visit on your own, as most cenotes have an entrance fee of only about $10. Don’t forget to wash off all lotions and sunscreens before taking a dip – it’s crucial to the cenote’s ecosystem!

5. Eat at Restaurante Condimento

This amazing restaurant has excellent service and a stunning view of the water. The dining options are buffet or a la carte, which offer an array of international foods. Reserve seats for the breakfast buffet and try some of the delicious gourmet desserts.

6. Try a Temazcal

If you’re a fan of spas but want to try something a little more authentic, try a temazcal! This is an ancient type of Mesoamerican sweat lodge that was used to cleanse the body of impurities after battle or a ceremonial ball game. Modern temazcals are often led by shamans who incorporate music and aromatic herbs into the ceremony.

7. Visit Valladolid

Located about two hours from Cancun, Valladolid is a quaint Colonial city full of history. Rent a bike tour the town to admire the architecture. 

8. Hit one of the beach at Playa Maroma

With it’s white sand, incredible blue water, and expansive size, Playa Maroma is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The Southern most part of the beach, Maroma Point, is ideal for offshore snorkeling.

9. Visit Chichen Itza

No Spring Break Cancun trip is complete without Chichen Itza, one of the seven wonders of the world. The Mayan name means “At the mouth of the well of the Itza”. The Castillo, the giant step pyramid, is one of the main attractions of the archeological site.

10. Ferry to Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women

This four-mile island is packed with things to do. There’s the Tortuga Granja, a turtle sanctuary and aquarium; Garrafon Natural Reef Park, which offers zip lining, snorkeling, a bike tour, and kayaking; and of course the beautiful Playa Norte.

11. Visit Xel-Ha Eco Park

Nature lovers will have a blast at this eco amusement park. For an $80 admission, you can zip line, cliff jump, float down the mangrove river, explore cenotes and underwater caves, and bike down jungle trails. The park also offers spa treatments and encounters with dolphins, stingrays, or manatees!

12. Party at Coco Bongo

Nothing says “Spring Break Cancun” like the Coco Bongo nightclub. The shows can be described as “Las Vegas meets Cirque de Soleil” with acrobats, live bands, confetti canons, and dance performances that go till 2am. Try going during the week to avoid crowds, because this club is always packed.

13. Sight-seeing at Tulum

Tulum is a scenic town known for it’s beaches and well-preserved Mayan ruins. Set out early for a nature walk and sightseeing tour, then relax at one of the towns many restaurants that line the coast.

14. Take a boat tour at Xoximilco

This is a one-of-a-kind experience that lets you drink, dine, and have fun while floating in a gondola. Expect lots of mariachi music.

15. Cave swimming in Sac Actun

Bring your  flashlight and go swimming in Sac Actun, the world’s longest underwater cave system. Swimming in the crystal-clear water and looking up at the stalactites is an unforgettable experience.
