Things To Do On The Weekend In Los Angeles

Found yourself with nothing to do on the weekend in Los Angeles? Luckily for you, there are countless things to do in LA throughout the weekend. Here are some of my top recommendations that you should check out if you have some free time on the weekend in Los Angeles.

Melrose Trading Post

One of LA’s most popular flea markets is held in the heart of the city every Sunday. Melrose Trading Post takes place at Fairfax High School from 9-5 at the end of the weekend. It’s an open air market that sells everything from vintage clothes to antiques, accessories, and more. If you’re looking to have a classic LA experience, this flea market is not to be missed. Don’t be surprised if you bump into a celebrity or two while you’re browsing, or come across someone you know or have heard of. Melrose Trading Post is LA’s most popular flea market for a reason. Once you’re done shopping, hit up Melrose Avenue for brunch, or to explore more of Los Angeles’ thrift stores. There’s no shortage of things to do in this area.

Street Food Cinema outdoor movies

Outdoor movies parks across Los Angeles are held every Summer, starting in May and going all the way until October. Street Food Cinema showcases a variety of films, and this year’s lineup is not to be missed. From The Wizard of Oz to LaLa Land, there are a myriad of movies that will appeal to audiences of all ages this season. Grab your comfiest blankets, pick up your favorite snacks (or get dinner from one of the many food trucks that frequent these events), and get cozy with your best friends. Take a break from work or whatever is bothering you, and lose yourself in a movie underneath the stars.

Venice Beach Boardwalk

If you’re from Los Angeles, you’ve probably already done this one countless times. But it’s an LA classic and isn’t to be missed, whether you’re from here or not. The boardwalk runs along Venice Beach and showcases some of LA’s best artists and street performers. Get some henna done if you’re not ready to commit to a tattoo, stop at a cafe, restaurant, or bar, or simply take a seat and people watch. There’s no shortage of characters in Venice, and there’s always something to look at on the boardwalk. If you’re sick of all the commotion, head to the skate park and watch the skaters do their thing, or walk down to the beach and enjoy the Summer sun and surf.

Brunch in Malibu

What better way to enjoy brunch than by the beach? Malibu Farm is one of LA’s most excellent brunch spots, and is right on the Malibu Pier. The view is to die for, and the food is as tasty as it is aesthetically pleasing. If you’re not feeling this particular brunch spot, the Malibu Country Mart is chock full of cute restaurants to grab food at; with a little less of a view, but just as yummy. Head to the beach after brunch to catch some sun, or take a drive along PCH and enjoy the scenery.

Go to a museum

Los Angeles is home to some of the country’s most renowned art museums. With big names like LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), MOCA (the Museum Of Contemporary Art), and The Broad, there’s no shortage of museums to visit in LA. Each offers an entirely different vibe and aesthetic, so it’s up to you to choose what kind of art you’re in the mood to look at. LACMA offers some classical pieces from hundreds of years ago to view, as well as some special exhibitions depending on when you’re visiting. MOCA has a collection that they keep open to the public, as well as other exhibitions from time to time. And The Broad offers a quirky take on contemporary art, with pieces that might appeal more to millennials.
