20 Things To Do On A First Date With A Guy Besides Getting Drinks

Are you tired of grabbing drinks every time someone asks you out for a date? I don’t know about you, but I am. It can sometimes be fun, but I feel like it’s the least creative option for them to pick. There’s nothing for either of you to do besides talking in a loud, crowded room and get drunk. No girl wants to feel like he’s just trying to inebriate her to jump in the sack together, even if that’s not what he is trying to do. There are ways to be active, conversation friendly, and learn something about their personality by putting it to the test, all only in a first date! Sometimes it feels really good to step out of your comfort zone. This could easily be better to determine if you want to give them a second date AND have a blast. Check out these things to do on a first date!

1.) Picnic in the Park

Nothing beats a good old picnic in your favorite scenic landscape. Grab some sandwich makings, delicious desserts, and a fizzling bottle of champagne and hit the grass with your favorite blanket. A cute romantic lunch with beautiful weather guaranteed. If you’re feeling active, bring a frisbee or ball to pass around in the sun!

2.) Go out dancing

Dancing has become so focused on impressing one another by themselves these days it’s almost impossible to find where all the partnering went. This can be a fun opportunity to express oneself whether you’re good or not. Partnering can be a fun and sexy way to get to know you’re date and  have a fun time.

3.) Go Bowling

When did going on a group date to go bowling end? I remember a time when it was really popular to heckle your friends when they hit gutter shots and victory danced when hitting a strike. Whether you choose to hit this up as a solo date or a double date, this is an awesome first date to partake in.

4.) Mini Golf

My favorite aspect of mini golf was always the themed holes. They were always different and undeniably colorful. Put Put Fun House was one of my favorite places to go with my friends and family growing up and it would make an undoubtably fun date. You can even pull the “can-you-help-me-hold-the-golf-club” trick and get a cute moment out of it.

5.) Go See A Movie

While this can be a very fun activity, and you can bond over your similarities in favorite genres, there is not usually a lot of talking involved unless you also get dinner beforehand. However, it can still be an excellent choice for a first date especially if you are not a big talker. All about body language, am I right?

6.) Drive-In Movie

Now, I know what you’re thinking, who goes to drive-in movies? Or even, what is a drive-in movie? Even though it may seem outdated, it has been making a comeback. They are slightly more intimate than the movie theater and has good chances for talking if you wish to do so.

7.) See A Local Play

No matter how strange or interesting the play is, GO SEE IT! You’re in for a fun experience either way. It could make you cry, make you laugh, bewilder you, excite you, you name it. If you are looking for a specific type of play then research one! In Houston in particular, there are so many different locations to go to, just look in the local newspapers to check the for any local plays. If you’re looking for a higher quality play guaranteed, go see one at the Alley Theater, Miller Outdoor Theater, or The Hobby Center.

8.) Antiquing!

If antiques are up your alley then this is the perfect first date for you. There are so many cool trinkets hidden away and there are a bunch of conversations to unleash. The sky is the limit.

9.) Roller Skating

I know what you’re about to say, roller skating or roller blading? Either one! You don’t have to pick one or the other in a roller rink. Just wear whichever makes you most comfortable and show off your skills. Usually you’ll find food, an arcade, and flashing lights on the skating floor. It adds just the pizazz you’ll want for this date.

10.) Grab Some Frozen Yogurt

A sweeter treat than coffee, food, or an alcoholic beverage. Give your date some flavor! Then you can eat it in cute store (maybe find booth if they have one), take it for a stroll, or go sit in the sun and hope it doesn’t melt. This gives you a relaxed setting and minimal, if any, pressure.

11.) Take Some Food To Go And Find A Nice Place To Go For A Walk

Instead of going to a restaurant and eating a sit-down meal, jazz up your first date by going somewhere you can take the meal to go, and walk by some nice scenery. The outdoors can really set the mood and most of the time will feel better on your skin than the blasting AC inside of a restaurant. This could also extend the time you hang out with your date because the outdoors have no opening or closing times. This is one of the simplest things to do on a first date.

12.) Board Game Shops

There are some cool places that sell a variety of board games. There are tables all around the store that you can bring your own or buy board games to play at the tables and you can either elect to play with others who happen to be there, or sit with just you two and get to know one another. Another opportunity is to find a board game and play it at a coffee shop or in the comfort of your own home.

13.) Theme Park

Where I grew up in Clear Lake is a place called Kemah Boardwalk with rides and food and carnival games to play right by the water. It’s a mini version of big theme parks such as Schlitterbahn (a water park), or Six Flags.  Any of these three places would be huge hits for a first date if roller coasters are up your alley. If not, who said you couldn’t ever step out of your comfort zone? You’ll never know until you try it.

14.) Laser Tag

A healthy dose of laser tag will really bring out your competitive AND giddy side. You can either team up and form strategy together to take out the competitive, or turn on one another and try to make them lose points. Either one presents a fun and cute way to have fun and test out aspects of the other’s personality. This is one of the fun things to do on a first date.

15.) Making A Meal

If you feel comfortable with them in your home or going to theirs, you could suggest cooking or baking together and have a nice romantic dinner. It’s a good way to see if you have teamwork skills together. Another perk is you can learn a lot from the other person based on how they cook, if they joke around, act shy, are super serious when they chop vegetables, or challenge you to lick the spoon when making brownies.

16.) Check Out A Museum

Are you both really into history, artifacts, art, or really cool sculptures? A museum would be an awesome choice to spend your first date. Any intellectual fond of these places would be thrilled to join you. This is one of the easiest things to do on a first date.

17.) Ice Skating

Whether it’s winter time or not, ice skating is still a well-loved sporting activity. If you’re a good skater you can show off your skills and if it’s not your best then what guy doesn’t love helping out a girl in need? This is one of the best things to do on a first date in the winter.

18.) Paintball

You can tell so much if they agree to this activity. I think paintball is so much fun, but it can also be brutal depending on who you’re playing with. It’s exhilarating to slide around, dodge the shots, and see the victory splats of paint on the opposing team. It really makes you feel like you’re walking away from an explosion, like they so often do in action movies. Despite feeling like a CIA agent, you’ve also gotta be ready to take some hits or hope that he will dive in front of you to protect you from them. This is one of the most adventurous things to do on a first date.

19.) Zoo

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my! Who doesn’t like going to the zoo? A bonus would be going over the winter time and staying until night so you can experience Zoo Lights as well as being able to see the cutest animals. Trust me, it’s romantic every time. This is one of the fun things to do on a first date.

20.) Pumpkin Patch

Is your first date in the season of fall? Go to a pumpkin patch and pick out your favorite plump or skinny pumpkin. Then, get to carving. A fun 2-parter date if you’re looking for more time together and cool ghoulish souvenirs to display outside your door! This is one of the best things to do on a first date in the fall.

Which of these things to do on a first date are you going to try? Let us know in the comments.
