10 Fun Activities To Do Instead Of Watching Netflix

Do you ever scroll through Netflix and realise that almost half an hour has passed and you’ve still not found anything to watch? Or have you ever found yourself binge watching a series and realising almost a day has passed and you’ve not really done anything proactive. That awkward moment when the T.V asks “are you still watching Dexter?” You cringe in your seat as you think to yourself yes I am still watching Dexter, please stop judging me. It’s ok to have a lazy day in bed watching T.V. However if you want to mix things up a bit then here are ten things you can do instead of watching Netflix-

1. Art and Crafts

At school Art class was a fun lesson to have, but most of us would never dream of picking up a paint brush now. You don’t have to be Picasso, painting, drawing or creating something doesn’t have to be taken seriously. Let’s be honest following art attack steps and making paper mashe sculptures is not rocket science. Just make sure you have pritt stick, it seems to be needed for everything. Head down to an arts and crafts store and grab some supplies, then make something for a friend. Handmade cards are always a nice gesture. If you’re really lacking in confidence you could buy yourself an adult colouring book or try painting by numbers. It’s a really fun way to pass the time and you never know, you may surprise yourself!

2. Bake

If you’re bored on your day off why don’t you try baking instead of watching netflix? You can pretty much find out how to make anything just by typing it into google. Most websites will even let you buy the ingredients online, so you don’t have to worry about finding it in store. Although if you do take a trip to the supermarket it can be quite fun shopping for supplies. You could even take it to the next level and buy the ingredients for a three course meal. Invite some friends around for tea, play come dine with me or have a cute dinner date with your partner. They’ll be impressed with your new cooking skills and you will have used your time productively, everyone’s a winner!

3. Have a clear out

Instead of lazing around watching the T.V why not do a bit of cleaning, put on your favourite playlist and get to work. You’re probably hoarding all kinds of things you don’t even need anymore, old clothes or shoes, children’s toys or DVD’s that you don’t even watch anymore. Why not grab a bin bag and take these to your local charity shop, you’ll feel really good about giving something back and your house will be free from clutter.

4. Learn a language or musical instrument

How many times have you said “I’d love to be able to play the guitar” or “I wish I was able to speak Spanish” Why not make a start? Instead of using your time watching netflix to catch up on the latest episode of Gossip Girl why not take some lessons. If you’re lucky you might have a friend who can play an instrument, ask if they are willing to teach you. Or you can buy some great audiobooks online that will help you learn any language, there are even apps you can get for your phone. Give it a few weeks and you’ll soon be impressing friends with your new skills.

5. Read a book

Stop saying you don’t have the time to read. Everybody has time, it’s just whether you’re willing to pick up a book as opposed to doing other things. Most of us our guilty of reading once a year during a holiday to Spain, or a long flight when there’s literally nothing else to do. Why not start reading on your days off, or read a chapter every evening before you go to bed. If you find yourself not wanting to read you probably haven’t found the right book. Find something that really interest’s you and give it a go.

6. Plan a trip

If you’re feeling a bit fed up why not plan a trip? You can spend hours searching the best hotels and resorts on Trip advisor, or searching Sky scanner for cheap flights. Take a look at the world map and see what country sparks your interest. You don’t have to go for a standard beach holiday, you could look into other things, see what the world has to offer and chose your location. The excitement of where you are going to go will lift your mood and give you something to look forward too.

7. Make a vision board

This one is a great way to pass the time and also gets you thinking about your long term goals. Buy yourself a cork board and some drawing pins. Then grab hold of a few old magazines and cut out some inspiring images. You can also put photographs or inspiring quotes on your mood board, anything you feel will motivate you. For example, instead of watching netflix,  if you want to own your own home, pin it to the board, if you wish to quit smoking put this on your board, looking at this everyday will inspire you. The process of creating this is really fun, get yourself some coloured pens and a pair of scissors and your good to go.
