10 Things To Do In The Midwest During The Summertime

Summer is fast approaching and there is so much to do with so little time. If you’re a Midwest kid, there are tons of different fun things to check out around the area. Here are just 10 things to do in the Midwest during the summertime!

10. Cub’s games at Wrigley Field

Chicago, Illinois

Wrigley Field is one of the oldest National League ballparks. Now that baseball has started back up again, the Chicago Cubs are back to playing at the historic ballpark. Trust me, whether you like sports or not, it’s really fun to check out a Cubs game and is a must-do for everyone in the Midwest during the summertime.

9. City Museum

St. Louis, Missouri 

It’s actually less of a museum and more of a grown-up playground full of really odd but awesome things to look at and do. There’s even a giant outdoor playground! This strange world located in downtown St. Louis was created by artists and engineers alike and is fun for everyone. There are plenty of great things to do in the Midwest during the summertime!

8. Lake of the Ozarks

Central Missouri

Lake of the Ozarks is a large reservoir and is full of really awesome things to do with friends and family. There’s caves, a state park, a brewery, cute shops and of course, a lot of water activities.

7. Cedar Point

Sandusky, Ohio

This amusement park has been named “The World’s Best Amusement Park” in the past and features numerous fun rides and things to do. However, this place is known for their coasters. Cedar Point is home to 16 roller coasters total, one being the Top Thrill Dragster, the second tallest rollercoaster in the world. There’s also hotels, campgrounds and a beach all nearby!

6. Lincoln Park Zoo

Chicago, Illinois

Not only is the zoo free and in one of the nicest parts of Chicago, but it is home to animal exhibits from all over the world. There’s also a few eatery options and a petting zoo. It is also right next to the Lincoln Park Conservatory, another free attraction in the city.

5. Summerfest

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

This music festival is a nearly two-week event with hundreds of performers from every possible genre. Across 13 stages, artists and bands perform throughout the day all the way until midnight. Nighttime firework shows are scheduled throughout the festival as well. Single and multiple day passes are available, so you can plan which days to go with your friends!

With coastal villages, miles of sandy beaches, dunes that rise over 400 feet above Lake Michigan and much more, this national lakeshore is perfect for those wanting to spend the day outside. The Sleeping Bear Dunes offer some of the best views of the lake and of the state.

3. Downtown Galena

Galena, Illinois

Looking for a day to walk around one of the cutest cities in the entire country? Definitely head to Galena. Located in northern Illinois, the city offers some of the most beautiful buildings, streets and overall views. There’s also amazing museums, restaurants, bars and other activities to check out.

2. Wisconsin Dells

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin 

Often considered the water park capital of the world, there are things to do for people of all ages. There are a handful of hotels that offer some of the most fun and wild indoor and outdoor water parks. There’s also go-karts, live entertainment, amazing views and food and nightlife to check out.

Chicago, Illinois

One of the most popular music festivals in the world is held right in the Midwest during the summertime! Located in Grant Park every year, this year’s lineup includes The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Camilla Cabello, Dua Lipa, Arctic Monkeys, and much, much more. Music lovers cannot miss this four-day festival celebrating all kinds of music in one of the nicest parts of Chicago!
