10 Things To Do In Summer To Look Forward To This Year

With the school year over in late May to mid-June, it’s time to start thinkings about what activities and things to do in Summer that you would like to do! With all of the free time the coming three months, there are many things to do in Summer.

The activities and things range from watching sporting events to staying active to traveling to spending time with family and friends, to name a few ideas. 

Now, with all of that being said, here are 10 Things To Do In Summer To Look Forward To This Year:

1. Attend A Music Festival:

For those 18 and older, one of the best things to do in summer is to attend a music festival. Over the summer, there are multiple music festivals taking place featuring performances from famous artists. Popular music festivals which take place in the summer annually include Lollapalooza (Held in Chicago and see the photo below), Governors Ball (Held in Randall’s Island, New York), and Electric Zoo (Held in Randall’s Island, New York), to name a few. 

2. Hit Up The Movie Theaters:

If you are at home and have nothing to do, one of the things to do in Summer with your friends and/or family is to hit up the movie theaters to see some of the newly released films! Films with highly anticipated releases this summer include Wonder Woman 1984 (see the photo below), Top Gun: Maverick, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, to name a few.

3. Watch The 2020 Copa América:

For all of you, sports fans (especially those who love soccer) out there reading this article, one of the things to do in Summer is watch The 2020 Copa América Tournament, which takes place from June 12th-July 12th. The tournament features 10 South American Countries and Two Invited Teams (This year being Australia and Qatar) competing. Argentina and Columbia are co-hosting the tournament. Brazil is the current defending champion (see the photo below), having won the tournament last year.

4. Watch The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship:

Another major soccer (called football everywhere else but The United States) tournament taking place this summer from June 12th-July 12th just like The 2020 Copa América Tournament (See #3 Above) is The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship (Also referred to as UEFA Euro 2020 and/or Euro 2020). Traditionally this competition is held in one (or two countries if there are two co-hosts) country across multiple cities, but Euro 2020 will be held in 12 cities in 12 UEFA countries. The semi-final and Final matches will be held at Wembley Stadium on July 12th. Portugal is the defending champion (see the photo below), having won the 2016 UEFA Euro Final over France (who hosted the tournament that year).

5. Watch The 2020 Summer Olympics:

Another major sporting event to watch and add to your list of things to do in Summer is to watch The 2020 Summer Olympics, which are being held in Tokyo this time. The Summer Olympics will take place from July 24th to August 9th.

The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo will feature the debut of new sports such as karate, skateboarding, surfing, and sports climbing. In addition, baseball and softball will make their return to The Olympics for the first time since The 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Be sure to cheer on TEAM USA this summer! 

6. Get Free Slurpees on Free Slurpee Day: 

In terms of things to do in summer locally, one of the best ones to look forward to is getting a free Slurpee on Free Slurpee Day at your nearest 7/11 store! As indicated by the name of the store, Free Slurpee Day takes place on July 11th each year and customers can get a free 12 oz. Slurpee at any 7/11 store across the country! This promotion is only available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day, so be sure to get to 7/11 early while supplies last!

7. Go On A Road Trip and/or Weekend Getaway:

If you can’t go on a trip to Europe or anywhere tropical this summer (whether it be due to work/internship schedules or whatever the reason may be), you can go still travel by going on a road trip somewhere and/or a weekend getaway to a place that’s close to where you live.

People can still create memories have a fantastic time despite having a small number of travel days. A road trip and/or weekend getaway will be best to do with your family and/or close group of friends. Possible destinations include Palm Springs, California; San Diego, California; Key West, Florida; and Phoenix, Arizona; to name a few ideas.

8. Watch Bachelor in Paradise:

In terms of Television and Entertainment, one of the things to do in Summer is watch Bachelor in Paradise. The spinoff show of The Bachelor Franchise gives former contestants from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette another chance of finding love in Sayulita, Mexico.

Like past seasons, there’s bound to be plenty of tears and drama. Bachelor in Paradise traditionally airs around late July to early August, which is about a week or two after the season finale of The Bachelorette. Summer 2020 will be the show’s seventh season. 

9. Pay Attention To The Democratic and Republican National Conventions:

On a more serious note, one of the things to do in Summer (especially for those of you out there voting for the first time) is to pay attention to The Democratic and Republican National Conventions, which both take place over separate weeks over the summer. The Democratic National Convention will take place in Milwaukee from July 13th-16th while The Republican National Convention will take place in Charlotte from August 24th-27th.

10. Watch The NFL Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony:

Another thing for sports fans (especially football fans) to add to their list of things to do in Summer is to watch The NFL Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony, where the newest members of The NFL Hall of Fame will be inducted. The Ceremony will take place during The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week, which is from August 6th-August 9th.
