So, you’re visiting the greatest city in the world for a short weekend and you want to finally live up to the hype your hear about everything to do… but can’t seem to find anything out of the ordinary to do. There are so many fun things to do in NYC when you’re visiting SJU. Obviously you need to give yourself, and your friends back home, proof that your social life in college will top all of theirs. I mean, c’mon, this is the capital of the world.
Also known as ‘The Nuyo.’ If you’re into anything artistic at all, take a visit here. Honestly, even if you’re not, it’ll definitely give you an appreciation of the arts. You can actually perform on open mic nights if you’re feeling extra risky. Located in Manhattan, this place definitely tops Monty’s on a Friday night.
I know you’ve probably heard of this great place before, but have you actually spent some time exploring it? Maybe go on the carousel or find the Ramble Cave. At least once in your lifetime, you need to take a run through Central Park (or try to). Regardless, it’s an amazing park that you can’t pass up the opportunity to see.
I’m not sure what type of food you eat, but I’m a bit tired of Monty’s. Not only is China Town an amazing place to tour in some down time, but it has some great meal choices that’ll definitely cure your appetite.
You can take anyone here. Your mom and your little siblings will find a part of this museum for their favorite art. Surely you’ll find something you’ve never seen before. The artists that are showcased here have tremendous talent. Maybe you’ll even go on a day where they’re having a live exhibit! And haven’t you ever wanted to see Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night?!’
Now I know this isn’t a specific site, but this neighborhood has a lot to offer. From tons of museums, stores, shops, good eats, and amazing drinks you can find anything in SoHo. Just spend some time to explore the arts and environment there and you’ll never want to leave!
Been slacking on social media? This Instagram-famous picture spot is perfect for the most artsy and modern picture for your profile. Famous artists and celebrities frequently take pictures here, so maybe you’ll even get lucky enough to see one! Not to mention it’s beautiful, with or without a camera.
Have you ever been to Little Italy? If not, you’ve gotta go, and try this place. It’ll make you think twice about your Mothers famous spaghetti and meatballs that you “love so much”.
You don’t even know the half of it, the way that New York’s population does. We get the most talented and entertaining artists to come to our city to perform event after event. From Governors Ball, to Brooklyn’s AfroPunk Festival, to Summer Jam, and on to the Panorama Music Festival. The artists you see in New York are ones you’ll never forget, and don’t even get me started on the amazing venues.
I know you’ll be getting plenty of D1 action on St. John’s Campus, but here’s a place where you can actually be a part of it instead of just watching. They have everything from water sports to yoga, whatever your body is in the mood for!
This is one of New York’s most prized possessions. The milkshakes are something you can’t get in any other city in the world. If you put these up next to the food at Marillac or DAC, it’s an easy win. Even though it’s hundreds of calories, you’ll burn it off catching the next subway!
Hopefully I’ve given you enough ideas for a weekend. There’s a lot more to do in this one-of-a-kind city but these are a few of my favorites. Enjoy!
