Things To Do In Austin This Summer You’ll Want To Try

There is one thing about the music capital of the world that we simply can’t deny – the city is growing and there are more fun things to do in Austin! This growth brings more opportunities, bigger art and entertainment scene and more fun activities for visitors and residents.  The summer season is knocking on our doors and there are plenty of activities we can keep in our bucket list if we want to have fun during the hot days in the capital of Texas. Here are some of the new and old things, places and activities to try during this summer season:

Barton Creek green belt

This spot is definitely one of the most green and relaxing places in Austin. In the hot summer days you can refresh yourself while exploring the 12+ miles of greenbelt. Hiking is both fun and also good for you and since Austin is  getting more focused on the healthy lifestyle, this is an awesome outdoor activity you could try.

Float on Boat rentals

If you don’t want to stay at home and avoid the heat during the summer, Austin has three lakes and this is a big relief for the folks like myself who miss the sea around here. Even if you don’t own a boat, no problem – there are the Float on Boat rentals and they are both on Lake Austin and Travis.

Kayak or Canoe on Lady Bird lake

This is one of the classic typical  Austin things to do during the summer months. It cools you off and you can enjoy the views while being out on Lady Bird Lake. If you decide to go during the really hot months like July or August, try to go earlier in order to avoid the extremely high temperatures!

Blues on the green

This is one of the Austin’s favorite traditions and it’s back every summer! Blues on the Green invites everybody to Zilker Park where they can enjoy a pet friendly environment with some homegrown music.

Austin Ice Cream Festival

This Annual traditions is back as well! You will be able to enjoy different activities, contests, live music and of course, most importantly, you you can try different ice cream options and keep yourself happy and cool in the Texas heat.

Austin Pride Week

This Fiesta Gardens and Downtown Austin event is the largest annual LGBTQ advocacy and fundraising event in Central Texas! Many different organizations and social clubs use this opportunity to connect with the attendees and create more awareness.

Fantastic Fest

This September event is the largest genre film festival in the U.S. , which focuses on horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and just in general fantastic movies from all across the globe.

Waterloo Music Festival

Waterloo is an Independent music festival that celebrates the roots of Austin and its music culture. It’s one of the most waited things to do in Austin at the end of the summer season. During a weekend of camping, everyone is welcome to see the nationally renowned bands performing alongside the local artists.

Rooftop spots

My personal favorite thing to do in Austin during the summer is visiting the rooftop bars during the day or at night. You can enjoy the views in Downtown Austin while sipping a cocktail, socializing and enjoying the pool.

There are few places where you can do that this summer and one of them and my favorite is the Azul Rooftop Bar at the Westin hotel, another one is the Handlebar on East Fifth, Geraldine’s in The Hotel Van Zandt or the rooftop at the W Hotel and the new P6 bar in the LINE hotel.

Movies in the Park

This is an awesome initiative from the Austin Parks Foundation. It’s one of the most fun things to do and it offers free movies on the big screen. This annual Movies in the Park is partnering with Alamo Drafthouse and Whole Foods Market in order to bring you the opportunity to watch some classic and new movies for free and its open air! What could be more fun during a warm summer night?
