As students, we can all get bored from time to time. Not to mention, not all of us want to use the free time we have studying and slaving away at school work. Here are some things to do around University of Tampa when you’re bored, or just procrastinating!
Two of the nation’s best beaches, St. Pete and Clearwater, are only 30 minutes away.
Do your work, read a book, or sunbathe. Maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of the dolphin that inhabits the Hillsborough. This is definitely the best place to meditate on campus.
Perhaps stop into Rico’s acaí truck while you’re at it and treat yo’ self to something sweet in between classes.
Thanks, Sprinkles! Head over to Hyde Park for a late night sugar rush.
Take advantage of this rare opportunity and check out one of the many free fitness classes available to UT students in the new gym on campus. There’s something for everyone from HIIT classes for the varsity athlete to relaxing yoga and barre classes for those looking to get in shape at their own pace. The best part is, all the classes are taught by students for students so you will never feel out of place and you might just make a few friends in the process.
Bayshore Boulevard is conveniently located roughly one mile from school. It is a scenic five mile sidewalk overlooking the Tampa Bay. Frequented by cyclists, runners, and active residents year-round, Bayshore is also a great spot to catch a glimpse of the sunset!
It’s such an underrated area (sure, it’s a little touristy given that the cruises dock there), but it has a lot to offer. There’s Wet Willie’s bar, Hablo Taco, Hooters, and Splitsville. Not to mention its close to downtown where Aja and Ferg’s Live are located across from Amalie Arena. If that’s not enough, there’s Jackson’s restaurant, American Social, and The Sail bar on Harbor Island just across the way.
May I suggest The Kraken party boat or possibly pedal boats? It’s a great way to celebrate a birthday or new way to spend a Friday afternoon. There are great Groupon deals and student discounts, too. Definitely one of the best things to do around University of Tampa!
Look into Top Golf in Brandon. It’s a 15 minute drive from UT’s campus. You can drink, eat, and play even if you’ve never picked up a club before.
One of the largest parades in the U.S. takes place in Tampa on Bayshore every January in celebration of the pirate José Gaspar who was the “last of the Buccaneers” to plunder the Gulf of Mexico. Students and Tampa residents alike pay tribute by dressing up, getting drunk, and collecting as many beads as possible. You can’t miss this experience.
But we do live in the heart of downtown Tampa with access to the Buccaneers, Lightning, and Rays. Not to mention the Yankees train here in their off season. If you’re looking to check out a pro-sporting event, take advantage of student rates!
Tampa is rapidly catching on to the craft brewing craze with breweries sprouting up all along the Bay. If you’re ever looking for something to do on the weekend or a fun way to entertain visitors, take them on a brewery tour and tasting. Trust me it is a great way to pass the time.
These are things you’ll want to experience for yourself while you’re at school here. Take a drive up to Crystal River to swim with the manatees or hike through Devil’s Den and swim through the aqua lagoons of Weeki Wachee.
Orlando is only an hour away and is one of the best things to do around University of Tampa. Sometimes you just need to get away and revisit your youth. May I suggest buying a pass for their international food and wine fest during Oktoberfest and drinking your way around the world?
