Life in Malibu as a Pepperdine Student is nothing short of a dream. Besides spending countless hours at Zuma Beach, studying in Payson, grabbing Starbs, and more, there are some things that make life at Pepperdine unique compared to other universities. From the small Pepperdine campus, to the close-knit Pepperdine community, there are just certain make Pepperdine so special. There are some things you have to do as a Pepperdine student, whether you want to or not. Here are 15 things that will only happen to you as a Pepperdine student.
Parking on campus is such a struggle every day, and you will get as creative as possible to make your own parking spot. Just be careful, as DPS is always on the hunt to give out tickets. You will probably get at least one parking ticket, and have to appeal your way out of it.
Along with parking, housing is another huge thing that us students struggle with each year. Whether it is on-campus housing or off-campus housing, it is such a long, stressful process. You know it is best to start looking for places as early as possible because it gets super competitive and chances of getting a place on-campus are tough! Make sure you get your roommate situation settled before searching for a place to live.
Heading to the Country Mart not only means eating at Chipotle, BurgerFi, or Sunlife, but it also means seeing some of your favorite celebrities! Whether it’s the Kardashians, stars from the Bachelor/Bachelorette, or your favorite actor from Friends, you will see them all! Keep your eyes out for celebs at all times!
You will be president of your sorority, captain of the intramural volleyball team, House Group leader, all while starting your own club. Not only will you be involved in these groups, but you will run them! It will be the most stressful, yet rewarding thing you do, and you will make some amazing friends along the way!
Every student at Pepperdine will perform in Songfest at least once! Songfest is such a big deal on campus and you will either be super excited to perform, or forced into it by your sorority sisters. But don’t stress, this ends up being some of the best memories you will have during your time at Pepp! You will rock it on stage, and make some great friends too.
As an incoming freshman or transfer student, you will participate in Frosh Follies with your dorm, and you will be completely embarrassed about it. It’s honestly just a ‘right of passage’ and something every Pepperdine student does, whether you want to or not. So, instead of pouting about it, put on your happy face, make some new friends, and laugh along the way! You will hate to admit it, but you will probably have a great time doing it.
The My-Tie Event is always the most anticipated event during NSO, as us girls are super anxious to find out which cute guy will be our lucky date. Whether you have a mega crush on your date from the start, or crush on him a few years down the road, you will hope that he remembers you were his My-Tie date and that night you spent together. My Tie event is also the place for all of those new NSO couples!
You will probably (most likely) meet the love of your life at Pepperdine, and turn in to another one of the Ring by Spring couples on campus! Whether you meet your significant other at Pepperdine, or you come to Pepperdine together, you will end up getting engaged after graduation and have a wedding filled with all of your Pepperdine friends and family!
Show up to class, be prepared, do your work, and make nice with all of your professors, as you are more than likely to have the same professor more than once!
Registration season is, and will always be, the most stressful time of the semester. Not only will you stress about following your four-year academic plan, but you will also stress about enrolling in those specific classes at specific times each semester. It always turns out that the classes you need are full, or offered at a time that conflicts with another class, so you are stressed. You make a run down to OneStop as you are emailing the professor begging for a spot in his or her class. But, somehow, it always works out!
You will go above and beyond and take as many internships as possible. You will easily get your internship credits for graduation, and continue to stress yourself out by taking on more internships and jobs. We are all about getting that internship experience, with the hopes of landing a job before graduation!
The food from the Caf will slowly turn into your worst nightmare. You will find that your order was either made incorrectly, or not cooked properly, and you will lose your appetite every time. You will start using all of your meal points at Starbucks or Nature’s Edge and stock up on snacks to get you through each day. When you are off campus, you will feast at your favorite restaurants and hopefully to have leftovers so you don’t have to spend another second at the Caf!
You will spend so much time on campus that you will get an on campus job. You probably won’t even have time for a job, but all of your friends are doing it, so why not get a job too? You will be stressed, but working with your besties will make it better!
Let’s face it, you will study abroad, at least one. Whether you study abroad for just a semester during your Sophomore year, or study abroad for the full year along with summer programs, this will be one of the best decisions you will make. You will get that once in a lifetime experience to study abroad, travel the world, and make some amazing memories with your friends along the way. This will turn out to be some of your favorite memories from college which you will talk about for the rest of your life!
You will meet the most amazing people at this school, whom you will be friends with forever. You will meet your future bridesmaids, and lifelong sister-friends forever! Cherish the friends you make and all of the memories you shared together!
