If you’re a student at New York University, then you’ll definitely be able to relate to a lot of these things!

The Cantor security guards tell you to throw out your tea

Because of mice, no one is allowed to bring in drinks that are not in thermoses inside Cantor. If you try to hide a drink under your jacket, you will either be told to put your drink on the table next to the security desks or you will be sarcastically asked to invest in a thermos. If you try to hide it in your bag, there’s a very strong chance there will be a spill.

As a freshmen, you end up signing up for classes that are 15 minutes and a good few blocks away

Your sociology class might be in the 7th east 12th street SPS building and your next class might be in the 194 Mercer street building. At least a few times you have to stay late in your sociology class in order to sign the sign in sheet and undoubtedly you are late to your next class. Every time you have to run in the cold, you swear to yourself that you will make sure to check the locations of classes before signing up next semester.

Your roommate has 50 alarms for her 8 am class the one day of the week you don’t have to get up that early

Your roommate’s alarm starts at 6 am and ring all the way to 7:30 am. What really makes you angry is that sometimes, she doesn’t even go to class. But, you can’t get too angry. You have a lot of alarms too and she never complains about yours. But, still, that really bugs you.

You lose your NYU ID

Those things cost $20 to replace and you need them for every possible thing at NYU. You can’t even print without them.  So, you always keep them at arms length. But, one day it just slips out and you have to drop everything to go and get a new one because there is not much you can do without them.

You save someone’s number the first week of school never to talk to them again

It’s amazing how big NYU is, but sometimes its hard to see the same people twice. People drop classes or the lecture room is so big you just can’t find them again or sometimes they just don’t remember you. Every few months you have to go back and delete all those numbers of people you will never see again.

The one time you are late, the printer is out of paper

It always seems to happen. You finish your essay at 3 in the morning and set a reminder to print it on your way to class that starts at 8 am. Of course you wake up late. I mean, you did sleep at 3. You rush out of your dorm and to the printers. But, when you try to print, you see that that the printer is out of paper. Your choices are to run to another dorm or Bobst, but either way, you are late to class.
