15 Things People With Tattoos Are Tired Of Hearing

Whether you just have one tattoo or your whole body is covered in them, you know the struggle of people giving their unsolicited opinion on them. It’s actually kind of amazing how much something you’ve done to your own body can apparently affect other people when in reality it shouldn’t affect them at all. I have a few tattoos, myself, so I definitely know the struggle. I, as well as anyone else who has tattoos, have heard all the things people with tattoos are tired of hearing including:

1. “How much did that cost?”

This is really none of your business, but if you must know, I paid a few hundred dollars.

2. “You spent how much?!”

Hey, you asked. But you get what you pay for and cheap price means cheap work and cheap work isn’t exactly something you want when it comes to getting a tattoo. So yes, I paid to go to a clean, reputable place to get tattooed by a reputable and talented artist. It’s called being responsible.

3. “Did that hurt?”

Having several needles pierce through my epidermis to deposit ink under my skin? Nah, it felt great.

4. “Why did you do that?”

Once again, none of your business. But, my answer to everyone that asks me this will always be the truth – because I wanted to and I could.

5. “What does it mean?”

All of my tattoos have meanings, but they’re personal and not anything I want to share with everyone who asks me. The meaning is for me to know and you to never find out.

6. “Those are permanent, you know.”

Wow, really? Thank you so much for that valuable information. I had no idea. Honestly this is #1 worst of the things people with tattoos are tired of hearing.

7. “Was that really necessary?”

Well, if you really want to get technical here, nothing besides food, water, and shelter are really necessary. But once again, I wanted to and I could so I did.

8. “You’ll never find a job with a tattoo on your body.”

Tell me that again as I’m busy working. I couldn’t hear you.

9. “That’s going to show on your wedding day, you know.”

I will never understand the hype behind having visible tattoos when you wear a wedding dress. Let me put it this way, I didn’t go through getting a tattoo so no one would ever see them, so I will proudly be showing off my visible ones in my wedding dress.

10. “That’s going to look terrible when you’re older.”

So will the rest of my sagging skin, but at least mine will look better than yours since it’ll have some designs on it.

11. “You’re going to regret doing that.”

I can guarantee you I won’t. But thanks for trying.

12. “That’s so unladylike.”

First off, I don’t really care what you think. Second, if you’re the kind of person that thinks a little ink on my body is going to alter the good person I was raised to be and make me any less “ladylike” then you’re not the kind of person I want to be around anyway.

13. “I’d never get a tattoo, but you know, good for you.”

That’s good for you. I don’t remember asking you if you’d ever get one, though. Of all the things people with tattoos are tired of hearing, this is by far the most condescending.

14. “Your parents let you do that?!”

Yes, they did. They’re not like some obnoxious parents that threaten to kick their child out of the house for doing something as trivial as getting a tattoo. But even if they didn’t, I’m 21 years old and can legally do it without their permission anyway, so what was the point in them “not letting me?”

15. “That’s going to stretch out when you’re pregnant and look terrible.”

I personally only have one tattoo on my stomach area and it’s small and all the way on the side of my rib cage, so I think I’ll be okay. But if for some reason it does stretch out, it’s not going to phase me like it seems to phase you.

What things people with tattoos are tired of hearing do you hear all the time? Put it in the comments!
