Ah, Olson Hall at Kent State University. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. It’s the dorm that has the best location on campus; close to every building and food stop, not making your walk too far. Holding journalism and visual communication design students, it’s no doubt one of the more artsy dorms on campus. But if you’re reading this and you have lived in Olson like myself…. it’s too late to stop now. Here are some things that you’ll only understand if you live in good ‘ole Olson.
A/C didn’t exist in this lovely dorm throughout my freshman year, so fans on fans decorated my room. Luckily, this coming semester, AC will be put in. One year too late, Allie.
BYOC. Bring your own carpet.
Okay, so you live in one of the oldest buildings on campus. Try and make the most of it and become inspired by the history and the creativity that will come to you by living in a different environment.
The hallways may smell, but if you close your mouth and try not to breathe, you’ll make it to your room.
They truly care about you and your education, and they want to help you succeed.
You never know if it’s a drill or a real one, but someone burning cookies in the kitchen will call for a great story.
Despite the living conditions, you meet so many creative and talented people that will boost your imagination.
Workshops are held every week that allow you to meet professors and people in your major that give the best advice and will help you along the way.
From naked men running around campus, to a man screaming at 4:00 a.m. at our building; yes, we have seen it all.
Sure, I lived in a hot room and sweated for most of my freshman year, but the people I met and the memories I made have impacted me and inspired me more than I could have ever imagined. I mean, I’m writing this list right?
