15 Things Only True Los Angeles Natives Will Understand

When people ask you where you are from and you tell the Los Angeles, you always get the same reaction like, “OMG! You are from Los Angeles?!” Then, you are hit with question after question about what it’s really like to live in Los Angeles. As you try to explain to them, you always realize that they will never truly know what it’s like to be an LA Native, but still give it your best shot anyways. Here are 15 things only true Los Angeles natives will understand.

1. Traffic is such a norm

We are so used to sitting in traffic every time we get in the car that we totally forget it’s a thing. As long as we have our music blasting and some friends to talk to, we know we will get there eventually. (Even if it takes over 2 hours to drive 20 miles!)

2. The active wear culture

Did I just go to a spin class or did I just roll out of bed and throw on some workout clothes? The truth is, you’ll never know. It’s socially acceptable to wear workout clothes everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Fancy dinner, school, the gym, the mall, an important meeting, etc. You will always catch us in our favorite Lulu Lemons and Nikes.

3. EVERYONE does Yoga

Your mom, your best friends, your grandparents, your second cousins, and hey, even your dog does yoga. You always seem to find a yoga studio on every block and aren’t even surprised because it’s such a thing.

4. If it’s over 70 degrees and sunny, we’re probably at the beach

Why waste a perfect day indoors when you can spend it at the beach? Whether you stop by the beach for 5 minutes or spend the whole day there, you Instagram followers will never know the difference. Be sure to snap a cute pic of you and your friends there, or one of you getting your tan on to make all the non-LAers jealous!

5. We don’t know how to drive in the rain

Whether it is a light sprinkle, drizzle, or full on downpour, we do not know how to drive in the rain. And let’s face it, we will probably never learn how to drive in the rain. You can always count on being late to work or school when it rains because you are bound to get stuck in traffic from a few car accidents because we just can’t seem to figure out how to drive!

6. We complain if it’s less than 70 degrees outside

“OMG it’s so cold out!” is what we say as we wrap ourselves up in our favorite jacket, scarf, beanie and grab a coffee to warm up. We are not made for the cold!

7. We love to eat organic, or at least pretend we do

Everything is Organic here. From the fruits and veggies to the meats, potatoes and even chocolate, we won’t buy it unless it’s Organic. It may be more expensive, but at least we are eating healthy, right?

8. In-N-Out is and will always be our number 1

We take pride in having In-N-Out here so close to home and are their most loyal customers. We even love to take visitors here as soon as they arrive to LA and always tell them that this place has the best burgers they will ever have, and most of the time, they agree with us too. Sometimes we even trick ourselves that we are eating ‘healthy’ by ordering a burger protein style, but then pairing it with fries and a milkshake. Oops!

9. Everyone is a commuter

Since we spend most of our day sitting in traffic getting to and from work, we all consider ourselves commuters. And, we are always complaining about how dreadful commuting actually is!

10. Always being asked if you have seen the Kardashians or any other celebrity

This questions always gets on our nerves, especially since we are so used to seeing celebrities around town that we aren’t even phased by it anymore!

11. Hiking on a Saturday is our favorite thing to do

Hiking and getting brunch is the new thing to do. Whether you walk around the block and call it a hike or head to Hollywood and hike 5 miles to the Hollywood sign, you feel like a real hiker. After the hike, we always treat ourselves with some brunch at the hottest spot in LA because we deserved it!

12. We love a good food truck

First Friday’s is our new favorite day of the month because we discover new food trucks and spend our whole day eating!

13. We will pay $20+ for a juice or acai bowl

We just love Pressed Juicery and Acai Bowls SO much that we are willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money for it. Don’t even try to make these at home because they will never live up to how good they make them!

14. Avocado on everything

We LOVE our avocados and pair it on every meal that we possibly can. We aren’t even phased by the additional avocado charge in restaurants, because again, we are willing to pay for it.

15. We love the Dodgers, Kings, Lakers, Rams and Chargers

There’s no better way to show off our Los Angeles pride then cheering on our teams!
