“How was your first year at SCU?” asked EVERY adult and friend I bumped into this summer. “It was amazing! Soo good! I can’t wait to go back,” I replied with a grin. For all those wondering just what makes SCU so great, here are 10 things I miss about Santa Clara during the summer that are making me count down the days till I move in. Can any of my fellow Broncos relate?
There’s no place like Benson and we really do appreciate how the school wants us to sleep in on weekends, given they serve breakfast from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., allowing even the late risers to get their dose of tater tots and omelets.
“What a great deal! Even Costco can’t compare!” – says every Santa Clara student after a trip to the Cellar. We all know the prices at the Cellar are some to beat.
Watch out! Incoming long-board! Having to be on the constant lookout for skateboarders and long-boarders is quite the adventure; like they expect you to get out of their way even though they’re the ones causing trouble. But hey, at least it makes the walk to class more exciting.
California sunshine, some cheap college beer, and our favorite EDM tunes, let’s forget about all the homework we’re not doing for a day (or two).
Because honestly there isn’t anything better than getting woken up by drunk college kids at 2 a.m. when I have an 8 a.m. class the next morning. (But I can’t complain because we’ve all been that guy.)
Last year, I had the privilege of living in Dunne, which meant having a free and spontaneous alarm clock in spring quarter (which went off between 7-8 a.m.), with the sound “construction noise: building of pavement and landscape area.” Too bad the construction will be over by the time we return to school (I’ll have to actually set an alarm), but hey, it was nice while it lasted.
The support and student body turnout for athletics at Santa Clara, especially football, is astounding. Now excuse me while I go sing the SCU Fight Song that of course I know every single word to. Rah! Rah!
Why this ride-sharing service isn’t available in all major cities, I don’t understand.
Walking to class everyday, I got so used to seeing toddlers from nursery school on campus. Either coming to SCU for playtime is a cheap field trip or I guess their parents wanted them to start the college process early?
Who knew so many squirrels could exist on 106 acres?
In all seriousness, Santa Clara is an amazing place and whether it’s hearing “Wake up Swig!” through my bedroom window in the middle of the night, being envious of how all the long-boarders are going to get to class 5 minutes before me, or seeing more squirrels than I do people on those early mornings, these are the things that make up my Santa Clara experience and make the university as unique as it is. I love my school, and I know I’m not the only one who can’t wait to go back and make some more memories this fall. Hasta luego, SCU!
