13 Things I Don’t Tell My Mom As Often As I Should

Everyday life can be very demanding and challenging; and we don’t always have the time, or the courage, to share what is going on in our lives. Personally, I don’t want to tell my mom that I am having a hard time trying to keep up with everything and trying to be perfect for everyone. However, opening up to her always helps me get through life more easily. So, Mom, this one’s for you. Here are 13 things I don’t tell my mom as often as I should.

1. I understand.

Adulting sucks! Big time! Now I understand how you feel when you return home tired or frustrated from a bad day at work. I understand how you want everything to be tidy and clean, because it makes you feel your life is in place. And I understand how, even though you love me immensely, you need a break sometimes and just yell, as I do, too, when I can’t take the anxiety any more.

2. Yes, I will do it.

Ok, so you know when your mom tells you to do something and the immediate response is no? Well, we don’t do it on purpose, but it automatically comes out of our mouths. You see, it’s a residue from our teenage years… Or maybe sometimes we actually need to relax and do nothing. But yes, we will do it at some point.

3. You are right.

This might be a no-no for some, but trust me, moms are right most of the time. As I mentioned before, adulting sucks. Your mom has been doing it longer than you. So when she tells you to be careful with your decisions in life, you should. Your mom is also right about your friends. I don’t know how she does that, but she smells betrayal from afar!

4. Do you need any help?

We may believe that our moms are superwomen, but that’s not the case. Whether it’s help with work, chores or emotionally, it is very important to just ask. Even the fact that you are willing to help makes her the happiest person alive!

5. Let’s go for a walk.

Yes, a walk. When I was little, we used to go for walks and we would talk about our problems, our worries, and my crushes! We would connect by simply walking by the sea. It is a much needed activity for both of you. Try it and you’ll see…

6. We need to talk.

This is one of those things I don’t tell my mom enough because many of us believe that these four words are scary. Well, that’s not necessary… I get that they are scary when you are in a relationship, but your mother would never break up with you! The fact that you want to talk to her makes her happy. She feels that she has fulfilled her role as a mother, because her child actually wants her in her life.

7. I am proud of you.

I know that it’s usually the opposite that happens, but believe me, your mom needs this too. You know how she is constantly busy trying to please everyone and more importantly, you, her child? Well, she actually needs you to tell her that you are proud of her, because no one else is going to.

8. You are my role model.

Sometimes when we are angry and frustrated, all we want is to break out at her. But deep down, we know that we want to be like her. Many might say that they definitely don’t want to become their mother, but we grow up and evolve because of her. When you see her working late, it’s because she wants to achieve her goals, not because she doesn’t love you. Your mom is not only your mom, she is a person with dreams and goals and she is trying very hard to combine everything.

9. You still are an important part of my life.

Those of you who have moved out will understand what I am talking about. It is very hard to tell your mom everything about your life because you don’t live together anymore. You need to make time to speak with her. This one is one of the main things I don’t tell my mom enough because I tend to get overwhelmed with my own life, and forget. It is important to remind her that she still plays a major role in your life even if you don’t have the time to talk every single day.

10. I’ll be there when you need me.

Studying abroad, working outside of your home state, or even living in a different part of the same city, your mom needs to know that you are there for her as she is for you. You don’t have to be physically there, but a skype call every once in a while doesn’t take much time.

11. I need you.

Yes, Mom, I do. And I know it is important for you to hear it. I need you to motivate me, to listen to me, and to help me. I know that when you hear these three words, you lighten up, because what parent doesn’t want to hear that they’re still needed by their child. Trust me, it is hard for them to see us grow up!

12. I miss you.

When I am all alone, I think about all our talks, our games, our laughs and I keep thinking what am I going to do when you won’t be here? I already miss you so much it hurts. Because you’ve been there all my life and you have taught me so many things. I miss you big time, because when I heard the door opening when you returned from work, I knew I was safe. And now, I live alone and I miss you opening that door and filling the house with noise.

13. I love you.

Always and forever. We think those words have lost meaning nowadays, but they really haven’t. It may be hard for some to mutter those three simple words. But your mother deserves them. She will always be by your side, through your ups and downs, supporting and loving you. This is one of the most important things I don’t tell my mom enough; and mom, I love you, too, no matter what!
