With the heat, humidity and variety of waters (hello chlorine and salt!) summertime can be rough on your hair. Most days, you’ll be on the go and the last thing you want to think about is straightening, curling or styling your hair. The easy fix? ACCESSORIES! From minimal looks with cute pins to calling it a day with a hat, accessories are your best friend when dealing with summer hair. Throw your hair into a high pony or messy bun and let the accessories do the talking. When you just want to quit and forget about styling products, think about adding an accessory to make your life easier when it comes to doing your hair this summer.
I am a huge fan of hair scarves. Like addiction status. There are so many things you can do with them, they’re cheap, come in a ton of patterns and look cute with everything. My go-to type of hair scarf is a silk or nylon one that easily can be around my head for a headband look or wrapped around a pony-tail for a cute accessory to the look. When stocking up on scarves for this summer, make sure to get some plain ones in addition to fun patterns, so you have plenty of options to match your outfits with! There are millions of tutorials on how to wear a hair scarf, but remember, you can always keep it simple!

Just when you thought the scrunchie trend was over, it came back full force and you can be sure that it will continue through this summer. Scrunchies are a perfect hair accessory since they are cute, don’t give you a headache like a traditional rubber band AND they won’t give you weird hair bump if you decided to take your hair down later. Thanks to the growing popularity, you can get packs of patterned and plain scrunchies in just about every color under the sun for relatively cheap so you can have a scrunchie to go with every summer outfit and swimsuit!

If you’re attending BBQs, picnics or weddings this summer (I have three!) then wearing a scrunchie or hat might not always be an option. In this case, sparkly, cute pins and clips should be your go-to. Depending on the level of fanciness you need to achieve, you can wear pins decorated with gems, pearls or fun colors! Pair with an updo and use the decorated pins to accent the look for a cute and easy way to add some interest to your hair. Plus if you do an updo, you will be much cooler and won’t have to worry about having to pull your hair up halfway through an event!

Already favored by boho-gals, bandanas have become popular in the past year to wear with whatever style you choose. From funky bohemian patterns to simple solid colors, bandanas are the new way to tame your hair while still looking stylish af. These are the same as with scrunchies and hair scarves, you can get them in packs in whatever colors or patterns you want! They are perfect for keeping your hair out of your face on the beach while still looking super cute. Bonus, if you just want a plain ‘ole traditional bandana, craft stores sell them for under a dollar a piece!

Whether you are hitting a festival or just cruising around town, flower crowns are the perfect hair accessory for the summertime. You can’t go wrong adorning your head with pretty flowers while everything around you is blooming under the summer sun! Keep in mind, for everyday wear, you don’t have to go over the top, there are plenty of options for delicate-looking crowns. Tote out the show stopper pieces for events like weddings or the aforementioned festivals! If you’re looking for something fun to do, gather your friends and DIY the crowns for a fun evening!

Okay technically this accessory is a year-around necessity but when it comes to second-day beach hair, you’ll need a cute hat to throw on. With options ranging from your favorite quote (see below) or something simple and cute (also see below), there is a dad hat out there just for you. If you can’t decide on just one, get a variety in different colors and levels of detail. I own about 15 and wear every single one of them, especially in the summer. I throw one in my beach bag so I always have the option if my hair is less beach-goddess and more like I got attacked by seagulls!

This is another option for adornment when attending events (or if you have to work!) Clips are definitely back in style but are a little more stylish than when we wore them in the 90s. Opt for the acetate-style clip with pretty details like gold flecks or flower petals for a delicate touch to waves or an updo. Or, if you’re just looking for a cute way to keep your bangs up and out of the way, rock the cute 90s style metal clips in fun shapes like hearts and stars! Don’t be afraid to mix style, shape or colors. Since it’s summer, anything goes!

Finally, this is a must-have hair accessory specifically for the beach or poolside. You don’t have to wait for vacation to pull this accessory out, it looks great just about everywhere during the summer! Visors are perfect because they keep the sun out of your face, hold your hair back and look cute while doing it! Everyone from the top brands to Target carries them and you can find them in a variety of material and patterns. If you want it to match your various looks, get a classic straw style that will go with everything except a sunburn!
