These Are The Essentials You Need In Your Makeup Bag

A girl’s makeup bag is one of her most prized possessions, and when we are always on the go, sometimes we just want a few quick essentials that are always with us whenever we need to touch up our makeup. Whether your days are filled with school, work, or anything in between, we have created all of the basics and must-haves that everyone needs in your makeup bag! We all are busy, and sometimes we forget to stock up on products and then we find ourselves at work with chapped lips. Ew. Here are all of the essentials that everyone needs in their bag so you’ll never forget anything again!

1. Oil Sheets

These are essential. Makeup can get oily or smear off, and that’s why these are helpful to have. Clean and Clear makes them, or you can pick them up at any nearby drug store. They aren’t more than about $7-10, and totally worth it. Keeping them in your makeup bag is helpful and handy, especially if you have oily skin. Take one sheet, and gently press down where you find that your skin is the oiliest. You will quickly see all of the excess oil that has been taken off of your skin! Thank me later!

2. ChapStick

Everyone has had that feeling where you can feel how dry your lips are, but can’t do anything about it because you left your chapstick at home. Leaving an extra chapstick in your makeup bag will surely solve this problem. Some chapsticks are better than others, I recommend Aquaphor, Burts Bees, or similar brands. Check out your local drugstore! I have Mario Badescu chapstick that I got for Christmas and let me tell you, I used up every last drop. But, there is no need to buy expensive chapstick! The drugstore brand will do just fine. I am pretty sure that you can never have too many chapsticks. I mean, doesn’t everyone lose most of them anyway, or is that just me?

3. Mascara

Touching up your makeup is huge, especially if you have a big day, and that is why having a mascara in your makeup bag is essential. It doesn’t have to be anything super fancy, but even if you buy a drugstore brand mascara just to keep in your bag, that will help you if you are on your way somewhere and could use a few coats.

4. Q-tips

When it comes to your makeup bag, sometimes things can happen that we didn’t prepare for, and that’s why q-tips come in handy. You can use these for makeup touch-ups, for when mascara hits your eyeshadow, (we’ve all been there), or of course, if your ears need a little cleaning. No judgment here, but better to be over-prepared! The good thing about q-tips is you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg, and most drug stores even carry a travel size q-tips, so you can use that and the little case it comes in. Sometimes I get my foundation that sticks in my hairline, or in my eyebrows, and it is good to get it off or blend evenly with q-tips.

5. Lip Color

Whether it’s lipstick, lip stain, or tinted lip balm, we all need our lip color fix. I feel as though throwing on some color for our lips is the perfect way to complete any look, and that’s why throwing an extra in your makeup bag won’t do any harm! Burts Bees, Neutrogena, Maybelline, or the brand Sugar, all offer great lip products. Glamour still exists even when you are on the go!

6. Powder

Everyone needs some powder in their makeup bag. If you need to touch up your makeup or foundation at any point in the day, the powder becomes your best friend. I actually have been using Airspun’s full coverage powder for years, and I sware by it. It only costs around $10 or less, and I purchased it at Walmart. Long days and busy schedules almost require powder nowadays. Totally worth it, and it can’t hurt to throw it in your makeup bag! Use a sponge for a light application that won’t ruin the rest of your makeup.

7. Hand Cream

If you wash your hands a lot throughout the day like I do, you are going to need good hand cream. I actually use the brand Mario Badescu for my hand cream, because I have sensitive skin, and it works wonders. My hands actually crack and sometimes bleed from how dry they get, and the winter months certainly do not help any. Leaving a hand cream in your makeup bag is not a bad idea! And who can complain about having smooth, soft, sweet-smelling hands for all that we need to do for the day? The brand Eos also makes a great hand lotion.

8. Tools

Of course, you may need a blending brush or sponge, for perfect touch-ups throughout the day. Brushes can be expensive, but they really don’t need to be. I use the brand Eco tools, I purchased them at Ulta and they come in a pack of brushes. They cost around $15, but it is worth it for all of your beauty-related needs. It couldn’t hurt to also have a few sponges laying around in your makeup bag, depending on how much makeup you use and what kind it is. You can also check out your local drugstore because tools are a huge necessity when it comes to makeup!
