Traveling can be hard enough especially when you are figuring out plane tickets, hotels, and the itinerary—let alone what to wear. These ten items should make packing a breeze for your next trip. They’re comfy, fashionable, versatile, and perfect for (almost) anywhere you go. These are the best travel wardrobe essentials for you to pack immediately on your carry on!
Boyfriend jeans are perfect for traveling because they’re the right amount of comfy and stylish. You can dress them up with heels and a pair it with a sweater, or dress it down with converse and a crop top. No matter what your style or activity, boyfriend jeans will work! I prefer boyfriend jeans over regular jeans because of their extra comfort from the bagginess and their stylish look even when dressed down. The best part is that because they’re so versatile, you don’t have to shove 10 pairs of jeans in your luggage to achieve these different looks.

Sweaters are another must. No matter how warm the weather is, wherever you’re going you will always need one. Let’s face it airplanes are chilly, nights are cold, and sometimes you’re not going to the beach. Sweaters, just like jeans, are versatile and can be paired with just about anything. To get the most out of them, stick to neutral or muted colors so you can wear them with multiple items on your trip, without it being too obvious in pictures.

Leggings are my most important travel wear. They are hands down the best travel wardrobe to pack! They go with everything (sensing a theme here?) They’re comfy and don’t take up too much space in the luggage. They’re great for the days you’re traveling, lounging in your hotel, going outdoors/exercising, and styling with a cute top for lunch! Pro tip, get ones with pockets!

Cute shoes are an essential travel wardrobe to any outfit. All the walking you do when sightseeing/exploring the cities you visit, you don’t exactly want to bring your sky high heels as your only pair. Likewise, you don’t need to be running around town in your ratty old tennis shoes with old gym smell with a burning hole in them. There are so great options that have that in-between feel were they have street style as well as that comfort necessary for long days. I prefer slip-ons because it’ll get you right out the door A.S.A.P.

Headbands can make a simple outfit pop better and give you that effortless, boho vibe. They’re especially great for bad hair days or lazy hair days when you can just throw your hair in a messy bun out the door, but that magical headband makes you look like you’re ready to take on the town. Perfect for concealing some airplane bed head, which makes it the perfect travel wardrobe accessory.

Another staple is a big comfy and blanket-like sweatshirt. You know, the ones like you usually steal from your boyfriend. Grab that old sweatshirt you had in your closet for five years. They may not be the wardrobe piece you pull out for a night out, but necessary nonetheless for days you miss home. Perfect for overnight trains/plane rides and time spent in the hotel/hostel. It’s fun to dress up and look your best, but these are just as necessary to have a little bit of home and provides the comfort that you are missing on your adventure.

These are the headbands for outfits. They look like you’ve put stylistic effort into something you can throw on in .2 seconds. The flow of the dresses makes it wearable for the entire day (especially if you’re going to a warmer climate!) while the floral pattern makes you stand out and look great in pictures. I prefer a white base and colorful floral pattern, but mix and match how you’d like it. It’s even nice to throw in a few solid dresses as well to wear with different jackets and combos.

Speaking of jackets. Denim jackets are perfect for travelers when it’s a little chilly. It also comes in handy when airplanes are blasting air conditioner. This is perfect to add to any outfit if you want to dress it down. I think they look best when they’re a little bit over sized as well, get two sizes larger for that street style look.

Face it they aren’t the most fun pieces in your wardrobe, the most colorful or the most trendy. Arguably though, they’re the most important. Basic, neutral tees are the staple of the wardrobe because that is the base for the entire outfit. The reason they’re important in a traveler’s wardrobe is because of that versatility, in color, style and formality. The essential colors are white, black, cream, grey and navy. Add in one or two solid red, pink, green or yellow and you’re golden for every occasion.
This is the fun one. Every traveler deserves to have a little fun on a night in town. That’s where the statement outfit comes in. This is the outfit, whether a little black dress, pink Louboutin heels, or your red velvet skirt. It’s the outfit you’re drawn towards for every event you go to, reminding yourself that you can’t wear it three nights in a row. This is the outfit that you’re most confident in, and the one that’s going to make whatever trip you’re on, unforgettable.
I hope this gives you some ease packing for your next adventure. Whether you’re sticking to maxi dresses and headbands in the Bahamas or denim jackets and head turners in New York, live it up and look fabulous doing it.
