These Are All The Travel Beauty Essentials You Need For Your Next Trip

Let’s talk travel beauty essentials. Everyone has to travel at some point in their life; whether it’s to go home from college, to see your grandma, or wherever you’re going for whatever occasion you’re going to need some beauty products to look good while on the move. One thing I hate about traveling though is paying for baggage. I absolutely refuse to do it, which is why I need liquid things to stay under 3 ounces so I don’t run into any trouble going through security.

These beauty essentials are small but practical, so you don’t have to haul your entire makeup and skincare collection on the plane with you. Everyone’s “essentials” are somewhat different, but I would say the basics are face wash, toothpaste, foundation, mascara, lip gloss/stick, and makeup remover. We don’t have to worry so much about pressed powders or creams because those can easily make it through security. Here are all the travel-friendly products I never leave for a trip without!

Makeup Remover

There’s no better makeup removing product than Neutrogena cleansing wipes. I use these both during and after travel, even if I’m not wearing makeup. They get rid of dirt and oil, so you can feel refreshed mid-flight, and they make a full face of makeup disappear with just a swipe or two. I’ve taken these to music festivals, on camping trips, on planes and they’ve never once failed me. You can get them in packs from Amazon and just stick one in your carry-on bag so you never forget them. Trust me, you don’t want to travel without this beauty essential.

Mini Face Wash

Obviously, you can pour your own face wash into a smaller bottle to get through security, but it’s honestly more fun to try a new product. Plus, who has the time to deal with all that mess?! The best way to travel with face wash is in stick form, which is all the rage in the beauty world right now. Stick cleansers make it super easy to wash your face in those tiny airplane bathrooms if you’re on a long flight or one that goes overnight. They’ll save space in your clear little baggy for other liquids, which is an added bonus. You also don’t have to worry about it exploding mid-flight and messing up all your stuff. You’re basically winning at travel with this beauty essential.

An option I love is the Boscia Charcoal Jelly Ball Cleanser. It isn’t quite a stick, but it has all the benefits of one and cleans better than your average face wash. The consistency is wonderful, it practically melts into your skin. It’s TSA friendly, so this might become the first product you reach for when you’re packing your bag.

Tooth Paste

If you’re looking for a more environmentally friendly way of bringing toothpaste on your carry on, then toothpaste tabs are the new product you need to try. We create so much waste with the products we use, so if we’re a little more mindful of what we buy everyone will be better off. Toothpaste tabs get the job done but don’t come with any plastic packaging. Plus, they’re ridiculously small, so you can slip the package into your carry-on without worrying about creating a huge mess, or getting stopped by a TSA agent because you’re trying to bring a huge tube through security.

The tabs from lush are made with essential oils and don’t contain any weird preservatives, so they’re good for your teeth and the environment because you aren’t rinsing any chemicals down the drain. Plus, the packing is made of recycled material and can be thrown back into the recycling bin when you’re done. It does take some time to get used to the different consistency of the tabs, but I promise it’s worth it!

Foundation

I usually prefer to take BB creams with me when I travel because they usually have SPF and offer some coverage, so it eliminates the need for both makeup and sunscreen. That being said, it is nice to have some more full-coverage options. Foundation is super easy to find in a stick version, but finding a formula that matches your skin tone and won’t crease or melt off your face is kind of a tricky battle.

I’ve heard really good things about the Hourglass stick foundation, although I haven’t tried it myself. It supposedly offers a seamless finish and doesn’t require a ton of blending like some foundations do. Their website has a foundation shade guide, so you can easily find your shade which is often difficult to do online. According to Instyle, this is one of the best foundations, and it’s travel-friendly!

Face Mask

I love doing a face mask after a long flight. It’s a way to decompress from the stress of traveling and give my tired skin a boost. Plus, I’ve read countless articles where all sorts of celebrities swear by using a face mask while traveling to keep their skin fresh and glowy. The air in planes is extremely drying, so it’s important to treat your skin from the inside out by drinking tons of water, and a moisturizing mask will only add to the glow.

The annoying thing about masks is they can be messy, and often come in huge packages which lasts us a long time, but isn’t great for travel. That is why I am in love with sheet masks. They don’t get your hands messy, and you can slip a bunch of them into your bag to use whenever your skin needs a refresher at your final destination. You can wait until you’re at your hotel to use one, or be super extra and use one while flying to combat the dryness. My favorites are ones from Sephora’s brand. They’re super cheap and come in tons of different kinds to fix whatever your skin problems are.
