Albums are the art that is created by a musician. Plenty of musicians are considered amazing artists, who make the albums for us to enjoy. Sometimes though, these musicians can have an off day, and end up releasing a horrible album that might be boring, lacking inspiration, or just plain sucks. That is why today we are going through the worst albums made by good bands and musicians.
I am going to start this list off with an album I literally hate. Kid Cudi, who most probably know from Day ‘N’ Nite, tried his hand at an alternative rock album but ended up failing miserably. The highly repetitive instrumentals mixed with the nothingness of Cudi’s lyrics create a 90-minute album that is nearly impossible to listen to beginning to end without stopping. It really is comparable to a group of 8th graders who smoked weed out of a coca-cola can and then tried to create a rock album. There are no redeeming factors of this garbage, not even the interweaved Beavis and Butthead sketches throughout the album can save it.
Miley Cyrus can usually create pretty decent pop albums, but Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz were not one of them. I would compare this album to a good Christian girl who for the first time ever has a bit of edge to her personality. Listen to “Bang Me Box” and tell me it is not some of the worst descriptions of what someone wants to do sexually. Aside from the straight-up annoying songs, there are multiple lines that can either make you gag or make you fall asleep. One redeeming quality is that you get the idea that Miley is having fun creating this album, so I guess if making a horrible album helps her sleep at night….
Any fans of Metalica probably could have seen this one coming. St Anger split Metalica fans down the middle, as some believed the album was amazing, and others wished it would have never been made. It is too much to get into here, but some nad members had issues in their personal life, which created tension in the band. The entire process was documented in “some kind of monster” which is a documentary on the horrendous process of making this pile of dog poo. One redeeming quality is that some of the pieces to a good Metalic album are there, but this project should have never been made, to begin with.
You might think the Yellow Submarine is a classic, but I am here to tell you it is the worst album the Beatles ever put out. The album featured all the music from the animated film (side note, none of them loaned their voices to the film) and what we are left with seems more like a Beatles leftovers album. We only have 2 new songs, with the rest of the album being nothing but leftover sessions and an extremely long collection of orchestra music. Unless you absolutely love the move, this album is nothing to you. One redeeming quality is that it is the Beatles, so even the garage albums can still be pretty good.
This album made everyone think that Eminem was gone. This project is easily Eminem’s most commercial endeavor, with mainstream features from artists like Alicia Keys and Beyonce, and touching on real social topics, such as the police killings of African Americans. The issue with this album though is that Eminem seems to continuously do some of his worst habits on songs, making this album almost boring to listen to. While Chloraseptic and Framed have found their way onto my playlist, it is almost guaranteed that you will press the skip button on every other song on this album. Especially the mind-numbing opening track Walk on Water, which could quite possibly be used to torture terrorists. One redeeming quality about this album is that it feels like Eminem made what he wanted to make, instead of what anyone else wanted.
Led Zeppelin did not even sound like Led Zeppelin on this album. This album features some of the worst songs Led Zeppelin has ever made, sometimes back to back. Only one song features a guitar riff worth caring for, “In The Evening” remains the only song worth coming back to on the entire album. The rest is an overflowing mess of sound which can either overwhelm you or leave you confused as to what the story of the song is. In The Evening is the only redeeming quality of this entire album, so make sure you do not let this album guide your love of Led Zeppelin.
This one is for me, as I have been a fan of the Insane Clown Posse since middle school. They have dozens of releases both solo and as ICP, but the worst two albums are Bizzar and Bizaar. Released on the same day as a double album, this was the Insane Clowns just trying to get out of their contracts. They wanted to go solo but had two more albums in their contracts, so to get out of their label they made this double album. As you revisit it, you can definitely tell that the usual ICP sound is missing something, probably the passion to make the project. One redeeming quality is their cover of “Let’s Go All The Way” which is a really good cover you should check out.
