All great sleepovers have one thing in common, that being they all feature some great movies! Nothing beats snuggling up with comfy cushions, a bowl full of popcorn and your best friends for a movie marathon full of all your favourites and a few new movie watch list. As an avid movie goer with a bunch of close friends, I can guarantee you part of the reason our friendship is still intact is due to our regular movie nights.
With no further delay, here is my recommended go to ultimate sleepover movie list. Pick and choose between these suggestions for a feel good evening that will leave your friends messaging you for weeks to ask when the next sleepover is!
A New York classic, when Harry Met Sally is a guaranteed win for all of your guests. A love story, plenty of good book titles to pick up along the way and the biggest of belly laughs inspired by Billy Crystal. Some movies grow outdated as the years pass, but this is one that gets better with age and will never stop being 100% relatable.
As if! You totally need something fun and lighthearted to continue with after the first heartbreaker of the evening, which is when you should turn to Clueless for inspiration. Full of those infamous meme moments (rolling with the homies!) you’ll experience serious 90’s throwbacks that will provide inside joke material for years.
Who doesn’t love an early Lindsay Lohan Disney flick? The Parent Trap is on your movie watch list that made you want to both have a twin sister and go to summer camp which is something I think every kid went through in the 2000’s growing up. Go down the nostalgia path and make your Autumn sleepover a bit more summery with this number, and don’t forget the Oreos and your best British/Californian accent!
A classic you most definitely can’t leave out is the original point of reference for everything you’ll be snacking on at your sleepover. Roald Dahl’s story has never been told better than it has by Gene Wilder and co, with some of the most beautiful music and wackiest on screen moments of all time.
It’ll leave you feeling you can take on the world with your very own golden ticket, and no doubt singing along at full volume from the minute you press play.
Another classic, or what might be better referred to as a cult classic, The Breakfast Club is one to provide a touch of deeper thought and reflection.
Leave it towards the end of your night for when you’re starting to feel a bit sleepy but at the same time wide awake because that’s definitely the feel given off from these directing choices: Everything and nothing at the same time, we are all basket cases after all.
And last of all on your movie watch list, Love Actually! This will be the absolute highlight of your night because it features all of the best actors you can think of, a heart wrenching web of plots and Hugh Grant’s dancing at its best. And before you say it, no – no, you don’t need the excuse of Christmas. It’s Christmas all year round when it comes to Love Actually!
