The Ultimate Ranking Of Freshman Dorms At The University of Toledo

Are you looking for the best freshman dorms at the University of Toledo? We have the ultimate ranking, so you'll find the right one freshman year!

One of the most exciting moments when entering college is getting to pick your roommate, your residence hall, and finally moving in! Although this is exciting, it can also be a stressful process finding which dorm is the best fit for you. To help you along the way, I’ve made the ultimate ranking of freshman dorms at the University of Toledo!

All dorm rooms come with a twin XL bed, desk, chair, dresser and either a closet or a wardrobe. Internet access is in all rooms, cable TV, laundry rooms, and there is recreation areas/lounge space as well.

8. Academic House

Academic house is a traditional style living situation where there are either bedrooms for two, three, or four people as well as community bathrooms. The placement of Academic house is great if you are a science major, it is close to where all of your classes will be and a short walk to the student union. It also cuts right through the flatlands, and iconic spot at UT. This places in last due to issues in the past with Academic house, it has been closed now for almost two years and will open back up in the 2017-2018 school year. But who knows, it could have a great atmosphere when residents move in!

7. International House (I-House)

I-house is a suite style living situation with rooms of either two, three or four people. This is the strangest residence hall because it is suite style with community bathrooms (the only residence hall like this on campus). I-house is a mix of usually freshman and sophomores, and has kind of an old-school residence hall vibe. I-house is great if you’re a business major because it has a business LLC (living learning community), meaning most business majors live in this residence hall. The placement of this residence hall is a little awkward and far from classes, but if you don’t mind the walk this is still a great pick!

6. Mackinnon Hall*

Quick disclaimer here, this residence hall is great for those who love quiet spaces and enjoy time to themselves and should not be thrown off of your list if you are looking for a more relaxed residence hall, and should be at the top of your list if this would fit you! Mackinnon is for honors students only, and is located right next to your classes. Literally, you could leave your dorm at 7:55am and show up to your 8:00am on time. These are double rooms with single bedrooms with community bathrooms. Most of time time, this residence hall is not full because most freshman lean towards getting into a busy and upbeat hall but I recommend this hall to honors kids who truly enjoy studying!

5. Scott and Tucker Halls*

Scott and Tucker halls are for honors students only and are two single rooms connected to a fully furnished living room. Scott and Tucker hall are both located right on campus and once again, don’t worry about those 8am classes, roll out of bed at 7:45 and you’ll be there! These rooms are preferred over the Mackinnon because of the single rooms and there is a more welcoming atmosphere, a little more chatter, and it seems like everyone that lives here truly enjoys it!

4. Presidents Hall

Presidents is suite style living that include a bathroom and living room. Presidents is where you instantly have 6 friends, mainly because you will be living 5 other people. There are a few living learning communities and most sophomores live in this hall. Presidents is the farthest away from your classes, however it is close to a bus stop which can take you to the centennial mall if you don’t feel like walking. It’s also very close to Ottawa wish allows for easy dining access (don’t worry, were getting there).

3. Honors Academic Village (HAV)

What?!?!? HAV isn’t number one?? This is a big shock if you haven’t done much research on HAV other than it’s a beautiful building. HAV is suite style, with single rooms attached to a living room and a small kitchen area. The biggest downfall in HAV is the price. The atmosphere at HAV can be found in other residence halls, but quality of the building is the highest at UT. For some, the price is completely worth it, it just depends on your style!

2. Ottawa House

Ottawa is a suite style living, typically four person rooms with a bathroom and shower room. There are also five person suites with one triple and two singles. Ottawa is split into two separate building, East & West. West is the best possible living situation if you choose Ottawa because it has a dining hall and a convenience store in the building! Ottawa is a mix between freshman and sophomores however more freshman usually to stay in Ottawa. The reason this is the best is because it covers everything: dining, atmosphere, price, location and the quality of the rooms! Ottawa has a welcoming atmosphere and even though these are suite style, there is still communication outside of just your roommates.

1. Carter Hall

Carter is an all-freshman building with the most welcoming atmospheres. They are traditional living with community bathrooms. HINT: If you decide to live in Carter, you will be the first to move in on campus (don’t tell them I told you). Because this is an all-freshman dorm, they try their best to move the freshman in before to allow them to have a smooth transition and participate in welcome week activities (free stuff!!!).

The environment is active and friendly, there will always be activities going on throughout the semester to get students engaged and you will meet the most people in these residence halls. I lived in Parks (closed for 2017-2018 school year, however and all freshman dorm) my freshman year and I wouldn’t have traded it for anything, I’ve made lifelong friends just simply from picking to live in an all-freshman dorm! It’s also super close to your classes, and you’re right by the Glass Bowl, so getting to the games will be a breeze (it’s also close to the tailgates for safe traveling).
