Baton Rouge is home to the Louisiana State Capitol and the LSU tigers but there is so much more to offer than meets the eye. This south Louisiana town is full of exciting things to experience. Whether you have lived here your whole life, new to town, just here to get that degree or passing through, here is a list of things you don’t want to miss while in Baton Rouge!
The Shaw Center is perfect for a day trip or a night out. It has something to offer for every age and every type of person. If you want to see beautiful art, a new film, or eat some good sushi this is the place to go. This 12,500 square foot venue has lots to offer, including an awesome view!
Ever wonder where to go to get the perfect sunset pic? This is the place. The levee lets you see the Mississippi for miles. While watching boats come and go, you may see some runners or find some much needed time to yourself. Go check out the levee just as the sun is setting and I promise you won’t regret it.
This hidden gem of Baton Rouge is brought to you by LSU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy. There is a large rotating telescope that is open to anyone who wants to see all our crazy universe has to offer. Take a drive down Highland road and stop by when you have time, it is a must see.
Perkins Rowe is the place we all want to go but probably shouldn’t. This strip, right near the mall, has all kinds of great shopping and good food to offer. It’s hard not to get excited when you see all the windows full of clothes just asking to be bought. I would say you’ll thank me later but your bank account probably won’t.
Sure, you could go to the zoo and see a tiger but why would you do that when you can go to LSU’s campus and see the best one there is? Mike lives happily in his habitat equipped with a pool to play in, rocks to sun tan on and his favorite ball. Don’t turn your back on the glass though, or maybe do, because Mike loves to play and will pounce to get your attention back.
If you’ve been to Louisiana before then you know that food is our specialty. If you haven’t been before, well, get here already. There is several food tours that Baton Rouge has to offer. “C’est Si Bon Food Tour” is one that will take you on a leisurely walk around downtown Baton Rouge to get a taste of the rich history and flavors southern Louisiana has to offer.
This building is hard to miss as it’s the tallest one in Baton Rouge. Stop by to see where some of Louisiana’s most important decisions are made. While you are at it swing by to see the beautiful governor’s mansion too!
The LSU lakes make working out a little less miserable sometimes. If you are looking for somewhere to run with a view or if you just want to take a casual scenic walk, this is the place to go. You won’t be alone as this spot is a favorite for students and people of Baton Rouge alike.
Last and certainly not least is Tiger Stadium. There is nothing like a game in Death Valley cheering on the Tigers. An activity perfect for all ages, a game in this legendary stadium is something you will never forget. Come by early and let Tiger fans show you how to tailgate in style. This is a must and probably the best thing on this list, not that I’m biased (geaux tigers ;)).
