Grab a good group of girlfriends and make amazing memories this summer by going on road trips in the USA! Both long or short trips make the perfect bonding experience for you and your besties. Here are a few ideas for popular destinations:
The desert land of Coachella is destination-friendly all summer! If you’re already from Los Angeles, you know this is a popular spot for a relaxing weekend trip. From L.A., it only takes a couple hours to drive there, so fill up your tank and invite your closest friends you want to pamper in the desert with! Be prepared to face intense heat during the summer. Remember to stay hydrated and wear your sunscreen all day as you’re getting your tan easily by simply walking around outside. Most days in Palm Springs are spent poolside and eating delicious food at great restaurants downtown.
You’ve seen El Capitan on Apple’s Macbook wallpapers, but you can have a chance to see the huge rock in real life by taking a road trip up to northern California and camping at Yosemite National Park! Most people can spend days in Yosemite camping, hiking, and being surrounded by nature. There’s a reason why it’s such a famous national park. Yosemite is a pretty big area to explore and nature lovers can’t get enough of it! If you and your besties want to get more in-tune with the outdoors, Yosemite is a great, versatile (for beginner and expert nature lovers) park to drive to.
I don’t know about you, but I remember watching the Cars movie as a little kid and learning all about the historical Route 66, one of the original highways in the U.S. highway system. This is a classic road trip that crosses multiple state lines. If you and your friends have a good amount of time for vacation, this trip could be your most memorable one yet! You can start in Chicago and explore for a day or two, make your way to Missouri into St. Louis, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and finally at the end of Route 66 lies the sunny Santa Monica, California. In Santa Monica you can spend your day at the beach or pier where they have a sign specifically marking the “end of the trail.”
The most scenic drive on this list goes to PCH, or the Pacific Coast Highway, also known as Highway One. If you want to explore the entire coast of California, this highway is your best bet to accomplishing just that. Taking you from San Diego all the way up to San Francisco, PCH never fails to give you the best views of the ocean. If you’re driving up or down PCH, be sure to make a lot of stops. It passes through great cities like Long Beach, Santa Barbara, Monterey Bay, and Santa Cruz. This trip would give you a lot of opportunities to explore beaches, wildlife, and great food in the cities you come across!
If you’re closer to the east coast of the U.S., the Outer Banks in North Carolina are one of the best destinations for road trips in the USA. It has a lot of different attractions you can explore and make day trips out of, which include beautiful beaches and historical sites and architecture. One interesting thing about the Outer Banks is that one of the islands called Roanoke was the first English settlement in the New World, but eventually everyone in that settlement disappeared with no known cause or reason. If you’re a history buff, you definitely want to take a road trip to Outer Banks!
