Anchorage is home to some great food and drink places. It can be hard to choose which one to go to at times, so I have found what I consider to be the top five places to grab a beer in Anchorage.

You may not love the increase of beards, flannel shirts, and nonprescription glasses, but hipsters did give us one redeeming item; beer. Not that see through stuff poured into red solo cups or chugged through punctured aluminum cans. I’m talking real beer. Thanks to picky palates of so-called beer snobs, micro-brewed beers are on the rise and because of that, breweries are popping up everywhere. Luckily, for us, Anchorage is no exception. In fact, it’s beginning to get a little difficult to even pick a place to grab a drink. But don’t worry, I’ve taken one for the team, done the research, and have found what I consider to be the top five places to grab a beer in Anchorage.

1. Moose’s Tooth-

There are a lot of perfect pairings in this world, PB & jelly, eggs & bacon, but nothing beats beer & pizza. Unlike most places, Moose’s Tooth specializes in both, and they kill it. If you want an amazing beer and something to eat, do yourself a favor and check out this place. You can get anything from a dark coffee stout to a delicious apple beer. Word of advice though, be prepared to have a drink while you wait for a table because this place is a local hot spot.

2. Midnight Sun Brewery-

Located in the industrial part of Anchorage, this is a classic brewery. You can head upstairs, above the brewery, to sit down and enjoy a huge array of expertly crafted beers. Be aware of which drafts you choose though, some of Midnight Sun’s drinks are as high as 12%. The cherry on top? They have great food, especially their pretzel sticks and beer cheese.

3. Double Shovel Cider-

Now I know this is a beer piece but I have to give a shout out to Double Shove Cider. I love this little spot.  They have dry ciders, raspberry ciders, blueberry ciders, the list is always changing and never a disappointment. They even brew kombucha for those who don’t partake.

Reading Terminal Market is a must-visit market right near Jefferson Station. Visitors from out of town make a point to stop in and residents come for their favorite stores. There are a lot of stands, so here are a few of our favorites that you should check out!

4. 49th State Brewing-

This place is relatively new, but it has quickly become a local favorite. With its stunning ocean views, full-blown restaurant, and craft beers, 49th State is so much more than a simple spot to grab a drink. They have signature blondes and IPAs, rotating taps, and even a chocolate stout. Definitely one of the newer places to grab a beer in Anchorage that you have to check out.

5. Glacier Brewhouse-

Although Glacier Brewhouse is locally seen as a restaurant and does indeed offer a killer menu, it is at its heart a brewery. I mean you can literally sit and drink your beer while you watch the beer being made. While they have solid versions of Ambers, IPAs, Blondes, and stouts, my favorite is the cask-conditioned ale that they keep on rotation. This one goes fast when it is on tap so grab it while you can.
