Summer skincare routines can be an extra step if you are in a rush and just hoping to get out the door. When it comes to summer and skincare, it is important to keep things simple and minimal. Everyone has their favorite makeup that they cannot leave the house without. Maybe it is your mascara, lip gloss, or eye shadow – whatever your sweet spot, we’ll revamp your skincare routine this summer! Leave all of your old habits in 2019!
One of my absolute favorite products in the summer months is a tinted moisturizer. This product will leave you with the best of both worlds, hydrating your skin, and providing a little bit of coverage. One of the best things about this product for summer is that many tinted moisturizers come with SPF, and considering you may be outside in the sun, it acts as a 3 in 1: sunscreen, moisturizer, AND foundation! When I just started using makeup in 9th grade I actually started with a tinted moisturizer, and given that was so many years ago, they probably don’t carry the same exact product. Nonetheless, I would recommend this product for many reasons! Head to your local drug store and choose the tinted moisturizer for you, my favorite brands are Neutrogena and Aveeno. In the summertime, you don’t need a heavy makeup or skincare routine. Start your morning like you would any other, by using a gentle cleanser and light moisturizer, allow 5 minutes to dry, and apply your tinted moisturizer with a sponge. You don’t even need a setting powder for this product, either.
Okay, even though it is summer and we already have our mind on some vitamin sea, it is especially important to use serums that have vitamin c. This product will leave your skin hydrated, providing deep nourishment and helps to reduce sun spots due to sun exposure that we all experience in the summer months. You don’t need to spend a fortune on this product, but once or twice a day, either before bed or after you wash your face, apply a small pea-size amount to your skin. My favorite brands are Mario Badescu and OliHenrickson!
This may seem like a necessary part of any skincare routine, but exfoliating your arms and legs is especially important in the summer. Even if you arent using any self- tanner products, it is important to gently remove excess dirt and oil that naturally build up on our skin. Especially if you are frequently going to the beach, exfoliating is a must! Your local drug store should carry a variety of brands, and Dove makes an awesome exfoliating skin polish that is gentle enough but also gets the job done, plus it smells amazing. For the best results, use this product no more than 3 times a week!
When it comes to summer skincare, it is so important to regularly use a moisturizer when you get out of the shower. A face moisturizer, yes, but I am talking about for your body. In order to fulfill the hydrating factor of a moisturizer, you don’t have to choose something super heavy on your skin that leaves a thick residue. The trick is to choose a lightweight product, that adheres to your skin like silk. You can shop for traditional brands like Aveeno, Neutrogena, or browse Sephora for something tailored to your skin type. I personally don’t like a moisturizer with any added fragrance or scent to it, so its best to leave this skincare step natural! Apply twice a day to see results, once in the morning and once before bedtime.
Okay, you may find that the word ‘tinted’ comes up a lot in this summer skincare routine. In the summer, everyone is always on the go, and I personally do not have a ton of time ton spend perfecting my makeup. One of the reasons a tinted lip balm is my summer go-to is because our lips are naturally exposed to more sunlight and UV in the summer months, creating a dry, cracked, chapped feeling. Grabbing a Burts Bees tinted lip balm will relieve you from that dry feeling on your lips, and it will offer a long-lasting color for your pout! The best thing is, you can get this product for around $10.
In the summer, we expose our skin to a variety of different environmental factors. Prepare and protect your skin for the day with a lightweight cleanser. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to spend a fortune on skincare products to achieve healthy skin. Brands like Neutrogena, Aveeno, and CeraVe will provide tons of protection and healthy ingredients. It is important to choose facial cleansers in the summer that are hydrating and promote replenishing qualities, such as hydrochloric acid. Rejuvenate your skincare routine this summer with a lightweight, healthy facial cleanser that will do wonders for your skin!
When it comes to makeup removal, being gentle is the most important. There are so many myths surrounding this idea, but going back to large cotton rounds and Garnier micellar water is probably the best tip I can recommend, someone at my dermatologist’s office even told me this. Sometimes rubbing around a makeup wipe can cause irritation and redness to the skin, and this summer is a great time to go easy with skincare. Micellar water costs around $7-10, and the cotton rounds you can get for under $5.00. I promise you’ll notice a difference! Check this product out!
