Everybody needs a pick me up from time to time. One of the most popular ways to get an extra pep in your step is drinking a strong cup of coffee. Some coffee is stronger than others, but what are some of the strongest? Here are a few of the strongest coffees in the world. It is important to note that just because something is readily available doesn’t mean you should try it. These coffee beans are only for people with an extreme tolerance to coffee or are very insensitive to the caffeine molecule. Drink at your own risk.
The strongest coffee on the market today is Black Label by Devil Mountain Coffee Company. It is 100% organic and packs quite a punch. This crazy coffee contains 1,555 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounces. The average cup of coffee only contains 95 milligrams of caffeine. This makes Black Label over 16 times stronger than average coffee! The U.S Food and Drug Administration advises that a person should consume no more than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day. Going over the recommended value can have dangerous side effects.
Believe it or not, people have died by drinking too much caffeine. Drinking too much caffeine can cause severe heart issues as well as other health problems. Black Label is only for the most hardcore coffee drinkers. You literally might die by drinking this coffee if you don’t have an extremely high tolerance to caffeine. It is also rated the most dangerous cup of coffee in the world on many caffeine websites. You have been warned.
As the name implies, Very Strong Coffee by Great British Trading is just that, very strong coffee. It is the strongest cup of coffee produced in the U.K and is the second in the world (at least at the time of this article). It is made from 100% Robusta beans making it high in bitterness but low in acidity. Robusta is often used to make espresso which shows how strong this coffee is. The people at Great British Trading roast the Robusta beans longer than usual in order to make the coffee even stronger.
One 12-ounce cup of Very Strong Coffee contains a whopping 1,350 milligrams of caffeine. This makes it 14 times stronger than the average cup of coffee and more than double the maximum recommended daily caffeine intake. Most coffee fanatics recommend drinking Very Strong Coffee in 6-ounce increments due to the high amount of caffeine. Very Strong Coffee is praised for its smooth but bold flavor but don’t let its smoothness trick you. Very Strong Coffee lives up to its name.
This intense coffee comes all the way from Australia. The type of beans used in High Voltage is unknown, but we do know the coffee contains a combination of the strongest beans grown in Australia. Australia’s National Measurement Institute has declared High Voltage the strongest coffee in Australia after studying many different local brews. What makes this coffee stand out from the rest is its incredibly smooth flavor. Most strong coffees have a very bitter flavor. High Voltage somehow has no bitterness making it dangerously tasty.
High Voltage contains 1150 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounces. With this amount of caffeine, it is amazing that High Voltage is not super bitter. It is said to be much smoother and less bold than Very Strong Coffee with just slightly less caffeine. Again, this kind of coffee is not for beginners. The coffee might taste great, but it only takes a few sips to get you going since it is 12 times stronger than the average. Much like the wildlife in Australia, High Voltage Coffee is nothing to mess with.
This brand of coffee originated in South Africa but is now sold all over the world. Amazon even carries this insane coffee. Black Insomnia might look like your normal run of the mill coffee while it’s on the store shelf, but after taking a closer look, you realize Black Insomnia is no joke. Black Insomnia uses a combination of Robusta and Arabica giving it a very unique flavor. The coffee is 80% Robusta and 20% Arabica. As stated before, Robusta is generally used to make espresso so it’s much stronger than your average coffee bean.
Black Insomnia contains around 1,105 per 12 ounces on average when using 50 grams of coffee grounds when brewing. Going over 50 grams is not recommended (or smart). This coffee has more than 3 times the recommended safe daily dose of caffeine. Black Insomnia will surely wake you up, but it could put you in an early grave if not used responsibly.
Maximum Charge by Cannonball Coffee in another extreme brand of coffee produced in the U.K. Much like Very Strong Coffee, it is packed full of caffeine and is only for the most seasoned coffee drinkers. This coffee also uses Robusta coffee beans to help it give it an extra kick. The Robusta beans used to make Maximum Charge are gathered in the Coko region of Rwanda making it pretty unique.
One 12 ounce cup of Maximum Charge contains a staggering 1,101 milligrams of caffeine. You would have to drink nearly 7 Monster Energy drinks to consume that much caffeine. Since the coffee is so caffeinated, Cannonball Coffee recommends brewing only 4-ounce cups at a time, equivalent to a sample size you might find at a grocery store. 4 ounces of Maximum Charge still contains 310 milligrams of caffeine which is way more than the average person needs.
