I grew up in a very small country town called Morrice, Michigan. With a population of little to over 800 people, dirt roads, and one main road connecting the entire town we were easy to miss on the map. If your like me and grew up in a small hometown you might relate to some of these.
For some reason the nearest convince store was always more than 15 minutes away from your house, and it was always located in the next town over, not Morrice.
Your parents never bothered to wash their cars much because within the next trip it would be covered in dirt again.
It never mattered what time you left Morrice, these things always tended to come and back up traffic.
Float building, parade decorating, and the football game to end the night. The entire town came together to create and celebrate the day.
It was easier to say the closet heavily populated area then trying to explain to people where you were located on the map for 20 minutes.
You grew up with each other throughout the awkward haircuts, braces, and everything in between. At the end it was like a big family, and you couldn’t help but love them.
Everyone had grown up with each other in town, and there was no one that you couldn’t name that lived there. Now, when you see someone new you have to get to know them or else you feel odd.
There was nothing better than chilling with your friends around a nice toasty fire while sipping on some juice.
You never knew why the towns always had this rivalry between the other, but you stood with everyone else when those game time lights came on.
It didn’t matter if you were with your parents, grandparents, or friends everyone blasted out those Luke Bryan, and Miranda Lambert tunes. If you didn’t, did you even go there?
They knew your name, and the way you liked your food handled. You hate going to new places because its never the same as home.
The neon signs were always on, and the music was always on but you couldn’t be sure if anyone actually went inside.
Growing up in a small town you tended to date the same people again and again. It wasn’t your fault because there was never anyone new that came along. If they did they became apart of the dating cycle that existed.
After a long week of school and work your parents would pack up the car, you would pack the snacks and off you went.
Distance doesn’t matter because no matter how far you go your heart will always belong to your hometown.
